Chapter 24: Run Part 4

Alex continued searching, that noise getting louder all the time. As she continued, she could swear she heard footsteps behind her. She would turn and shine her light but would see nothing. The noise would also stop, but every time she would turn and continue your search the noise would start again. "Terry!" She yelled. "Come on, Terry, where are you?!"

"Have you found anything yet, Alex?" Drew asked over the radio.

"Nothing." Alex stopped to respond. "I keep hearing a noise, like metal, I don't know how to explain…" Before she could finish, she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, as she looked down at herself to investigate, she saw a machete sticking out of her stomach. The blade turned to smoke as if it was never there and Alex was left with a large wound. As she slowly lost consciousness and fell to the floor, she dropped her radio on the ground and broke it.

Drew was worried when Alex did not finish her sentence and called out to her on the radio. "Alex!" He yelled. "Alex, answer if you are okay!"

Hearing no response Drew looked over at Sam with a grim expression. "Fuck." He said. "First Terry goes dark now Alex too?! She said she heard the ghost as well, that can't be a good sign."

"I'm worried too Drew," Sam said, "but we need to get you out of here. I will go look for them after we get you somewhere safe."

"I'm just slowing you down!" Drew said panicking for his friend. "Go leave!"

"I'm not leaving Drew!" Sam said. "You're my meal ticket, remember?" She smiled.

Slowly the pair made their way down the corridor Sam traveled to get there, taking extra precautions to get past the debris.

Meanwhile out in the wilderness surrounding the hospital a familiar man was running with all he had away from the building. "Terry ain't down for this!" He yelled as he ran. "Damn machete wielding ghost trying to cut Terry up! Terry don't want to be in pieces! Terry likes being in one piece!" He continued to run away. "Just need to make it to town and get some help!"

As Terry ran, he felt a chill run down his spine and heard a voice in his ear. "Go back." The voice whispered. The words chilled him to his core. "Turn around." The voice continued.

"Oh, fuck no!" Terry yelled. "Terry ain't doing a damn thing mysterious voices in the woods whisper to him!" He picked up speed as his fear mounted.

"Your friends will die." The voice whispered.

"They are big girls and boy!" Terry answered. "They don't need Terry! And Terry don't need no more ghosts in his life!" Terry realizing, he is talking to a voice in his head. "Oh damn! There's a ghost out here too!"

"Last warning, turn back." The voice whispered menacingly.

"There isn't a thing that would make Terry run back!" Terry said. As he said that a giant ogre materialized in front of him. As Terry and the ogre made eye contact the monster raised its club to smash Terry like an insect. "Except for that!" Terry stopped so hard he fell down in the dirt, he quickly flipped around and started running in the opposite direction. As Terry turned to run away the ogre vanished, and a small faceless girl took its place. She waved as Terry ran away. When Terry turned to see if the ogre was still following him, she vanished before he could see her. Instead he heard a massive roar which made him run faster.

It did not take Terry long to reach the hospital again, nor did it take him long to climb the wall and enter the broken window he escaped from. He found his radio on the window seal. "That's where it was." He said as he picked it up. He tried to use it, but it was broken. "Damn thing must have broken when it got caught on the window. We really need to buy tougher equipment." He sighed. He pulled his flashlight out of his back pocket and proceeded out of the room.

In the hallway he found Alex on the floor in a pool of blood. "Oh, shit Alex!" He yelled as he ran to her. He felt her neck to check for a pulse. "Faint but it's there." He examined her body and noticed the wound on both sides. "Damn ghost must have run her through." He said. "Think Terry! Need to stop the bleeding!" Not knowing what to do, having no medical training or background, Terry decided to apply pressure to the wound. He removed his shirt and stuffed it through the hole in her abdomen. He hoped that the fabric would create pressure and help stop the bleeding.

He picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder. He grabbed her butt to hold her in place and noticed an object in her pocket, an object he was all too familiar with. "Why does she have a gun?" Terry said aloud to himself. He made his way back to the broken window and gently placed Alex outside. "Stay here and don't die on Terry!" He said. As he lowered her, he took the gun from her pocket and placed it within his.

"Okay now I need to go get Drew and Sam!" Terry said to psych himself up. He sprinted down the hall back to the corridor where he and Sam split. Terry was a fast runner and got there extremely quickly. He went down the path Sam took in hopes she would still be there. He found the stairs down to the basement and saw figures ascending the stairs. It was Sam and Drew.

Sam saw Terry running towards them and was relieved he was alright. "Terry!" She yelled. "We need to go!" Behind her and Drew the noise was getting closer and closer, following them up the stairs. As Sam and Drew exited the stairwell the large ghost could be seen directly behind them.

"Get down!" Terry yelled as he reached for his newly acquired sidearm. He unloaded the clip into the ghost, and the spirit actually responded. He fell backwards down the stairs and laid limp against the wall, before disappearing in a plume of smoke.
