Chapter 45: Chapter 45. Returning from battle

Asada enjoyed his day with Nala and the others while his brother and sons were out fighting for the pride lands.

He only did this for the sake of his sons, so that they'd grow stronger and gained experience of real battles, and definitely not because he wanted to have some grown up fun with his wives.

A lion can never have to many cubs, this is hard work that must be done for the survival of the pride.

So whilst his broder, sons and the other two males were out fighting hard, Asafa was at home fighting hard, in his own way.

Asafa yawned as he stretched after working hard today, and just as he was about to take a good nap, a black panther hurriedly walked into the den.

"Asafa!" She said worriedly without the hint of jokes she usually had in her voice.

"Imani, what is the matter?" He asked as he noticed her worry.

"The sun is setting. Simba and the others have been gone to long, I'm worried that something might have happened!" She said in worry.

Asafa stood up and hurried out of the den to confirm what she had said, and indeed, the sun was about to disappear into the horizon as the sky had turned orange.

"..."

Imani followed him out.

Asafa was speechless, had he been so preoccupied with his wives that he hadn't noticed how much time had flown by?

Simba and the others went on their mission long before midday, so Imani was right.

Too much time had passed by.

"And there is no sight of them?" He asked to make sure.

"I've been waiting ever since they left." Imani said in worry.

"Alright wait here." He said as he ran down the pride rock at full speed.

Imani was about to follow but she couldn't, he was to fast.

She just looked on wide eyes as he sprinted towards the horizon in full speed.

"Why does it feel like he could easily outrun a cheetah..." She whispered in shock.

She had seen him run before, but he always kept his speed so the others could follow, this time he went full speed.

Asafa ran with all he had, and his stamina didn't seem to deplete. However he didn't have to run for long before he saw his sons, brother and two other males form the pride all walk back, while some were limping.

"Simba!" He shouted to gain his attention.

A few were limping but the worst of all was Tukufu, he had lostome of his feet and he was bleeding heavily. Simba was carrying him.

"What happened?" Asafa asked in a serious tone as he saw the state that Tukufu was in.

"He saved us, that's what happened. If it wasn't for him, at least 3 of us would have died." Simba said with admiration but also worry.

Asafa frowned, that didn't sound like Tukufu at all. His eyes went to Mohatu to see what state he was in.

Mohatu was halting as well but he seemed fine except for some scratches and that his head was lowered in sadness.

"What about the crocodiles?" Asafa asked. The details of what happened can be further discussed later.

"Dealt with." Simba said in a heavy tone. It seemed that he had also substained injuries.

"Let me take him!" Asafa said as they all helped put Tukufu on Asafa's back.

Soon they reached the pride rock where the other were waiting.

All of them came forward in worry, including Imani and the crew.

"Everyone, move aside." Asafa commanded. His son was bleeding out so he didn't have time for their worries.

"Timon, Pumba." Asafa said.

Both of them hurried forward looking worried.

"Yes buddy?" Timon asked as he observed the injuries.

"Do you remember the method I taught you to start a fire?" Asafa asked.

"Of course!" Timon said, not understanding why Asafa was asking for that.

"Then please start one as soon as possible." Asafa said as he laid down Tukufu on the ground and pressed on his leg, hard, to stop the bleeding from where he had lost his floot.

The others looked on while being confused.

Timon and pumba hurried, doing their best to start a fire.

It took a while but in the end, a fire was lit.

"Simba, take my place, put you paw here." He said. Simba came forward and did as Asafa said, not understanding why.

Asada saw that blood started flowing from Tukufu's wound.

So he used his paw to push down Simba's paw.

"Use this much strength, see how the blood stops flowing. If it starts flowing again, press harder, don't be afraid to harm him." Asada said before moving away. Simba was shocked at what he was seeing. You can stop bleeding by pressing the wound?

Asafa ran around looking for a football sized stone with a flat surface, when he found one, he picked it up with his mouth and brought it to the fire.

He put it into the fire with the flat side up and waited. Everyone was confused.

Soon the rock got really hot. Asafa splashed a drop of blood onto the rock and when he saw how it got burnt, he knew the rock was hot enough.

"Move out of the way!" Asafa said to Simba as he picked up Tukufu.

What they all the witnessed shock them to the core.

Some of Asafa's children even looked away.

Asafa put his son down near the fire place.

"Simba, Imani, come here and hold down Tukufu, no matter what happens, don't allow him to move away." Asada said somberly.

They walked forward and did as he said, still not understanding why but they trusted Asafa.

Asafa took a big breath and looked at his unconscious son.

'Hold on, this will be painful." He thought in worry.

Then he picked up the leg that Tukfu had lost his foot on, and put it to the burning rocks flat surface.

Instantly, all of them looked with horror.

Tukufu woke up shouting and roaring, trying his best to escape the pain.

Asafa didn't allow him and kept burning the wound.

Asafa saw that Tukfu had bled profusely, and if they couldn't stop the bleeding, then his son might lose his life, and Asafa wasn't willing to allow that, and this was the only plan he could come up with.

Zawati, Simba and Imamu started shedding tears as they saw their brother in so much agony.

Only when Asafa saw that the injury had been completely burnt, and there was no bleeding left, did he let go of Tukufu.

At this point he had passed out again.

Everyone was looking in horror.

"If I didn't stop the bleeding, he would've died before sunrise." Asaf said with exhaustion.

Putting his son trough so much pain exhausted him.

"Simba take him to the den and no one is allowed to disturb him. Let him rest. The rest, only his siblings are allowed to sleep beside him, but keep silent and don't disrtub him no matter what." Asada said.

Before turning and walking away.

They saw that he was pained by what had happened so they didn't follow him.

Imani walked up to Simba and tried to comfort him, it seemed like what had happened had even shaken him.

Asafa walked to a secluded place and started wandering in circles, he was waiting until Zazu revealed himself, to get some answers.

'I don't want to think bad about Tukufu, but it isn't his style to sacrifice himself for others... What really happened....' he kept wandering in circles as he pondered.
