Her touch seemed to awaken something in Jostein. His ears perked up, and he leaned into her hand, nuzzling her palm with a gentle insistence that spoke of recognition. Jessamyn's heart ached as she felt the warmth of his breath against her skin, the bond between them as strong as ever despite the passage of time and the hardships they had both endured.

Good 👍😊

Tears welled up in her eyes, but this time they were tears of appreciation. She felt her heart soften, the icy walls of grief and misunderstanding beginning to melt away.

Jerrick has a pure intent- to make you happy

But here was Jerrick, without hesitation, having taken responsibility for Joar's horse. She recalled how he had mentioned not wanting to pay for the horse, not because he didn't care, but because he didn't want to own him. He wanted to foster Jostein, to care for him without claiming possession. It was a noble sentiment, one that touched her deeply. She wouldn't have wanted anyone else to own Jostein either. He was Joar's horse.

Joar's horse?

Tied to the shade of a tree was a brown horse, its once-proud stature now a mere shadow of its former glory. The horse had a distinct white mark between its eyes, shaped like a jasmine, a feature that had once made it stand out.

What is it?

When they arrived, what she saw stunned her into silence. She looked at Jerrick with wide eyes, her heart, which had been barely beating to sustain her, now pounding with excitement.

You've learned so much 😉

He had learned the hard way that making her smile was not the same as making her troubles go away. If he wanted her smiles to be genuine and lasting, he needed to take concrete actions to alleviate her burdens. Otherwise, she might continue to smile while storing all the resentment in her heart, which was not good for her.

Just tell her 🥹

Jerrick held her hand closely, feeling the need to make plans for their travel to Ravensworth. "I'll make plans soon," he said, his tone gentle yet determined. He wanted to surprise her with the visit to Ravensworth, hoping it would bring a smile to her face.

I won't be so sure of that 😔

Because talking to Joar did give him some insight. She was not the girl he knew but she was still the same. Once she handled the grief and the harrowing shadows of the past, he would be able to get his Songbird back.

She's smart and still has a will to live

It made him wonder if he had been worrying too much about her safety. Jessamyn often ran into danger, but she always managed to find a way out. It couldn't just be pure luck.

He put her above him. ❤️

Jessamyn didn't know how he could smile like that not knowing that he truly was happy that she was hungry. Being hungry was indeed a good sign.

It's so beautiful 😭

At his words, she stopped struggling, her body slowly relaxing in his arms. She leaned on his shoulder, like a tired little bird that had finally given up after a desperate struggle to escape despite its broken wings. The fight within her seemed to drain away, replaced by an overwhelming weariness.

I want to say that he doesn't have to do it but if it helps then....

He whispered soothing words, his voice a balm to her wounded spirit, even as his shoulder throbbed with pain. Jerrick understood that sometimes, the path to healing began with a raw, unfiltered expression of hurt, and he was willing to bear it all for her.

"Why would I cry?" she asked, her voice a mixture of defiance and vulnerability. Still clinging to him, she wrapped her legs around his waist and, in a sudden surge of anguish, bit into his shoulder.

The raging feelings that she tried to suppress bubbled in the deepest corner of her heart waiting to be let out. She clutched her hands to fists.

She's so stressed about a lot of things.

She had to extinguish the flames of her anger, to restore the calm facade that her position required. Every fiber of her being longed to act with the dignity expected of her, but for that to happen, she needed to find stillness, to gather the shattered pieces of her soul.

True 😢

This profound sorrow reshapes those who encounter it, distorting reality and breeding despair. It carves deep furrows into the soul, where hope struggles to take root. Grief is a storm that clouds judgment, a relentless tide that drowns reason.
