The knife he gave as a main weapon to the heavy infantry is just the size of a regular cooking knife why not use swords

I can just imagine....all this army building and suspense. Near the last two chapters. Either in a split second of a paragraph....as he was about to go to war. An assassin struck behind him and killed him...as he was about to go to war he woke up and realizes he was just dreaming all along and he is still trying to make a living for his sister....as he is about to go to war the enemy surrenders and he wins .......................... so much bloodshed would unfold on the author. But the author would have a "so much win"(still a jacka** though) moment
