Mc has no idea on how to continue the Philosopher’s quest? Why not just visit the guy who started the damn thing and try your luck? Sure the guy still resents you but you’ll probably get a clue and at most take a bit of your time. It’s something, rather than just saying that you have NO idea on where to start from. Just like the problem with the lack of capable people and recruitment hall. Sure you won’t get the high level historical figure but you could get a king grade that could somehow ease your burden wouldn’t you? At worst, you’ll probably receive an artist with no job. Try. It’s a gamble where you don’t lose much at all so why. Why are you still “complaining” when there’s at least another method.
