Moron had the chance to wipe out Taiping country extremely quickly but he let the threat buildup like a moron. I still have no clue why he is going inland when he has the see. Explore the islands for resources and lock down Lianzhou and your job is done. As long as he can navigate he can land behind enemy lines to cause major damage and back off again. Instead of focusing on a place where he has a monopoly he is going inland like a moron.
