Unless you mean the cannons that got mounted on battleships and heavy fortresses, you got something wrong. Ming dynasty time period of1600 AD, was definitely before such things were possible.
What gets me is that he terms them as fixed in place cannons, meaning that they dont move. Problem with that is they haven't invented recoil compensating mechanisms yet so any pre-world war cannon had to be free to roll back to account for equal &opposite reactions. If they can't move in some way then they risk shattering the mounts or the cannons themselves from stress fractures. Cause explosions dont play nice with toys & little boys.
