Consequences of breaking the elder wand

At the end of the final battle the Golden trio defeat Voldemort once and for all.
As the battle ended Harry Potter broke the elder wand and threw it in the black lake yet years later why am I holding an intact elder wand and why has the magical world changed so much.
Dragons, elfs, centaurs, spirits, demons, monsters everything that was once considered fictional to the magic world has become real.
