No spoilers but Honest Review here as of ch 15. The supernatural detective series is a popular genre, not exactly original but well-loved. I typically adore supernatural series and this is not one, it is an early romance with a slightly different setting. That's fine too typically, but this story just does not work for me. Imagine giving a 10 year old a cooking recipe. All the basic ingredients are provided and of pretty good quality, however this is a child that doesn't really cook. So the ending dish is half raw, burnt in places, has stuff thrown in that definitely does not belong (like they threw chips and candy into the pan), but still resembles the dish. It's probably edible but to top it off they poured on ketchup and chocolate sprinkles. That's how I feel about this novel reading up to this point. The build up is instant quality, tropey and really not substantial. While the characters thus far are one dimensional and hollow. Only the MC can be excused as she is a normal person who can't touch others without seeing the dead, very relateable. For the most part, character reactions are natural enough but their dialogue is awkward. Grammar isn't great but not an issue, can still be easily understood. Still about in the top 70% percentile of works on WN, Maybe it's still too early to judge because plot wise, this is a successful formula and the author definitely has put some thought into her ML's background story. Lots of fun supernatural cases could be coming! But from the delivery so far, I wouldn't wait. I wish the author all the best and to joyfully keep up with their work as they see fit. This is only been one person's opinion out of many.
