It’s a sweet story, weak FL needed ML to save. Learns to be stronger and ends up with ML. Some twists and turn throughout the story. I don’t understand their family status though, makes no sense that one of them is in the older generation if both grandparents are friends. Grandpa Sheng > Papa/Mama Sheng > ML. Grandpa Shen > Papa Shen > FL. They should be in the same generation -.- Also, annoying that the last names, name and pronouns get mixed up. A LOT. I understand that Shen and Sheng is only a letter apart but still…

I like this book enough I guess, but I feel like the story telling is a bit haphazard and the world building isn’t the greatest. For example, the town/city they live in shares a name as a character, which is nit picky but still :/. Some of the dialogue is contradictory. It says “he’s never made a promise before because once he makes a promise, he always follows through. He made her one” which is cute and all, but a few chapters before this he made a promise to his mother, and the author also stressed that he always follows through on his promises, so :/ The pace is also way too fast. There are no reasonable time jumps and it makes it incredibly unrealistic. From meeting at 17 years old, her life moves at breakneck speed. There’s no time for the characters to actually grow with the story. Everything happens in a matter of days and weeks, even when there’re actually key plot points. Some “clues” aren’t really clues. The father waking up was “too coincidental” so ML searched around about it. Then it turns out it *was* actually just a coincidence, and while his reason for being in a coma in the first place is a bit dodgy, it has no effect on him actually waking up. Also, and this is an overarching one, the age gap conflict is a bit weird? She’a 18, whic I agree is quite young, but they also refuse to wait for anything, and are constantly concerned what others think of them. At least she is. Which is also :/ because she still refuses to wait regardless??? As I said, it’s a decent enough story with some good face slapping, but you really have to suspend your disbelief on this one. I’m going to finish it, because gots to see it through, but the mental gymnastics to make it make sense are exhausting.
