Her human mate

"You did this to me," he growled. The sound so strange and unfamiliar coming from him.

"No!" She sobbed. "You know I'd never do anything to hurt you."

"And yet you failed to mention being your mate had a price, the price of being turned into one of you. "

"You also failed to mention you were sent here to spy on me," she said quietly.

How had she found out?

He shook his head, it didn't matter. What really mattered now was that he was turning into a werewolf, and the pain he was in.

"No human has been turned into a werewolf, I don't know how it happened. You have to trust me, I never meant for any of this to happen." She knew he was in pain. His first shift. The unbearable pain of having your bones rearranged to suit your wolf form.

She could help him, if only he'd let her.

The hate she saw in his eyes slashed at her heart. "Tristan, please don't go."

But he was gone, and she knew she might never see him again.
