Zell saw the tears welling in his mother's eyes as he left the house. He walked down the stairs past the guards who were still too stunned to act and made his way into the city. He vaguely remembered where the church his mother had spoken of was and started making his way to it.
His path took him through the heart of the slums of the city. It is not an area he ever really visited. The ordinary struggles of the common man were not his first concern. His goals were much loftier in scope and focus. Still as he passed by, he could not help but notice those who were sick and lame.
Poor humans and discriminated against nonhumans, all huddled together for warmth and for safety. Hatred of different races mattered little to those who had nothing.
"Sir knight." A small child called out in a weak voice. "Please… please help us."
