When Emily had woken up and gotten ready to leave, she had no doubt thought that Derek was still deep in sleep.

But in truth, he had woken up the moment that Emily had started to move around. He had felt her painstakingly remove herself from his hold. Through it all, he had wanted to open his eyes. To get up and talk to her. But he had been unable to. His brain and his body both stuck in some sort of limbo, where he was aware of everything going on, but he could not partake. It had been a very strange feeling.
