They sent two survey groups to the planet, lost contact with both shortly after arrival... so they assume it's safe. Also WTF with them only bringing a single unreliable radio each.

You seriously want me to believe that THE OVERLY CAUTIOUS YAO YUAN WOULD EASILY FORGET ABOUT HIS ORDER FOR THE SHIP TO OPEN ITS AIR VENTS? I would be expecting him to have his heart grip in crippling anxiety as he realises what he just ordered. His character development is *not* fitting the situation at all.
