3.5/5 So this is my review up to chapter 427 of the novel. There is a need to note that this novel is written from the perspective of Chinese nationalist so some opinions and content may be questionable. While that is the case its not what makes me give this a mediocre score. I will be SPOILING some plot points and features so do take note. The main driving force for this novel is the 'game ring' which alters the history of world removing or lessening the impact of pieces of culture from our world(Pivotal historical information is kept to not greatly alter the world). Using this absence of culture Zhang Ye (The M.C.) begins his path to stardom gaining reputation points to play a lottery that can give skills and items. Now that we have the setup done I want to talk about gaining reputation points. In the novel Zhang Ye infers that he gains one point for every person that likes his works even if they don't know he made it. Despite Zhang ye (around Ch 300-400) being involved with some nationwide incidents and gets mass approval he only gains roughly 10 million points( 1 person liking = 1 reputation point) in country with over 1 billion people even since the turn of the century. It is a harsh throttling by the author that immensely slows progress and drags the story. Another topic is the path he choses to gain fame. During the story he ends up writing a few popular books and always had a choice to just plagiarise popular books to gain RP points(RP = Reputation) especially since people don't need to see his face to gain them(He also starts out average looking and has not improved up to the chapter I've read). He also faces and unbelievable amount of prejudice in the country but never once thins about leaving the country to find an better and coming back later(This is where that Chinese nationalistic view come into play) The writing itself is good ( usually the Chinese novels I read all have good writing) although I have heard that the M.C. was kind of a voyeur but that got retconned out. Overall, I would say the novels lowers itself by having 'struggle' Main Character(In which they never have a period of peak growth and are always under attack) which is something too many stories have and is a preconceived notion some authors believe instantly make their character better to read. It could be a really good novel. The plot is good and he is face smacking many people. The problem is that the mc of the book is a racist, who hates all countries other than china and says how great china is, even though he is plagiarizing things from other countries.
