Once outside the cave they looked upon the new surroundings in amazement knowing just months ago there had been nothing but lush grass lands. But now there is no grass in sight only a vast amount of trees and plants.
Everyone turns to Reese as if to ask him why he didn't say anything about this before but he just shrugs not knowing how to answer any questions on how this happened. After that quick time of bewilderment had left them all they headed off and down the mountain.
The eldest of the group were keeping their eyes out for anything that might be dangerous and told the kids to listen and make sure to tell them if they heard anything heading in their direction. Doing this provided the kids with an activity, kept them quiet, and since their hearing was the sharpest it was perfect. If they all worked together this way it made it less likely for them all to be caught off guard and end up dead.
Reese was the leader of the group with Colipso right by his side. They were leading the group to an area Reese had found on his first journey out here which was perfect to stay in for a couple nights till they found a new home for everyone. The area had thick walls, a huge steel door, and weapons inside, which Reese wished he had taken with him when going back to the cave a day ago.
The journey to the establishment they would be using was about eight hours in all and by the time everyone was inside they were all so exhausted nobody said a word.
They unpacked some of the food they had brought with them and presented the things they had found along the way. There wasn't a whole ton but it was enough to fill part of their stomachs up.
They ate mostly in silence except for the discussion of who would take watch and when they would. When it all was settled and everyone had ate all the food they had been given they headed off to sleep on the ground.
Tomorrow some of them would go out and look for food and a clean water source.
During different parts of the night they would switch people out to keep close guard always keeping at least one of the oldest out to make sure they all stayed on track.
It was no simple task, the kids were not properly trained in combat or with guns, but they had showed them how to hold it and fire; the aim might not be the best but it had to do for the time being.
The night was noisy and everyone had difficulty sleeping well throughout the night. There had been roars and screeches; Animals howled, screamed, cried, and chirped. The trees had swayed from the wind that went about them hearing the bark of them creak like old floor boards when you stepped on them trying to be as silent and still as you could. The floor was not comfortable nor warm so everyone huddled together and used the little amount of blankets they had to help block out the cold and store in the heat.
Throughout the night Reese held Colipso close to him only getting up when it was his turn to be on watch. He looked one last time at her as she slept seeing her hold the baby of one of the people they had lost. He missed Laurine she had been like a second mother to everyone including himself; so he would honor her by keeping her little baby safe, both he and Colipso would try to be the best parents they could be for the infant in which Laurine had given the name Brintely. So with that thought on his mind he left the room.
Morning came and Colipso woke up with a jolt forgetting that Reese had the last watch of the night. She had wished him to take midnight watch so she could wake up to his warm embrace this morning but that was not how it had went. As Colipso was ready to get up Reese walked in and came over to her, flopped down on the ground, and lastly preceded to go to sleep, pulling her towards him making her smile. After an hour or so Colipso started to pry Reese's arms that were wrapped around her torso away making sure she was careful enough not to disturb him from his sleep. Colipso knew Brintely would be waking up soon and that's when she would start to cry until she got food. Colipso did not want to wake anyone still sleeping up yet so she went outside.
Outside everything was covered in dew and the mist was thick. Feeling the cold on her face the baby woke up and began to cry. Colipso knew that Brintely was hungry; the baby had to stay properly nourished to stay healthy and not get sick, since babies are more susceptible to viruses and the possibility of death. The baby looked very healthy and on the slight chubby side which signified she was getting proper nutrition. Everyone had sacrificed a little bit to make sure this little baby was happy and healthy. She gave the infant some mashed up fruit, grains, and water that they had brought with. The berries had been found just yesterday and were very sweet. The baby after being fed grinned up at her, it was the cutest thing. Colipso held up a small toy that they had made down in the cave it was a piece of clothing that had been knotted up with a little bell dangling from part of it. The bell had broken but the baby still loved the toy none the less.
He came outside after sleeping an for an hour and a half or so; Reese had been very silent as to not disturb the love of his life he watched her play with the happiest baby he had ever met. It made him grin widely seeing her so happy and at peace. After a couple minutes Colipso noticed him and motioned for him to come over and sit next to her. Reese came over and sat next to her leaned in and planted a kiss on her bright pink stained lips from the berries. She never had to try she was so naturally beautiful he thought as he looked into her ocean blue eyes. He then looked down at a giggling Brintely who held her tiny toes in her hands. He smiled and took her in his muscular arms swinging her into the air she gave a shriek of joy and giggled.
After playing with the baby for a little while she had became tired and fallen asleep in Reese's arms both thought her to be the cutest little thing ever. They loved having this little one around she brightened everyone's day and made what was happening around them not so bad knowing there was still a hope for the future. Her eyes shown bright and filled with curiosity always brought them smiles.
