Chapter 5: Chapter 5: More than he can handle?

Under the combined weight of the 'dead' zombies, the door, alongside the bed, was instantly shoved forward, allowing Noah minimum effort in having to do all the work himself.

Just as quickly as the door and bed were forced forward, the zombies fell on top of the dead zombies one after another, creating a small 'wall' in the doorway of his room. Even then, that didn't stop the zombies from trying to force their way in. Slowly, you could see the 'wall' beginning to cave, but could Noah, who was still under the intense effects of his skill, wait for them to burst through?

With no hesitation, he rushed towards the pile of zombies, delivering a powerful strike to any zombie that moved. Under his crazed emotions, he even attacked already dead ones that were moved by the other zombies. Even then, he still wasn't fazed as he continued to swing his hammer.

No one but Noah and the zombies would know how long this killing spree went on, but both weren't conscious of the concept of time, as the zombies and Noah were dead set on killing one another.

Minutes into the altercation, a noise other than growling, heavy breathing, and the sound of metal hitting bone was heard until his sudden voice filled the gap.

"Jesus fucking Christ, that hurts!" The now-aware Noah screamed out from the pain coming from his shoulder.

Moments before he was injured, the same routine was occurring with him mindlessly killing the incoming zombies. He wasn't aware of it at the time, but he was well past killing his 20th zombie. However, as the wall of zombies in the doorway started to tilt, it didn't take long before the pile fell over to allow the last few zombies to take their place.

Unlike before, Noah was burnt out and was running purely on instincts that didn't care about his physical condition. His body still sluggishly tried to finish the zombies one at a time without taking heed of his safety. Luckily or unluckily, there appeared to be only four zombies left at the scene. It should've been simple for Noah to take care of the last four, only if it was earlier.

Overhead swings with his hammer were more demanding than before. Instead, he had to hold the handle near his hips with the hammer facing the ground behind him, using his body's momentum to aid his swing to reach the first zombie heading towards him with outstretched arms.

The swing connected with its face, powerfully sending the zombie into the air as it flew a few feet backward before slamming against the ground, half of its sunken face could be seen to be smashed in from the blow.

Zombies were not foes to wait; while Noah was dealing with the initial zombie, it allowed two more to fill in the distance. One was extremely tall and its long legs enabled it to arrive a little bit faster than the other. Maybe it was because the zombie was taller than normal or maybe it was because Noah was extremely fatigued, but he didn't try the stunt like last time. He continued to hold the hammer in the same position as before but instead of swinging upward, he swung the hammer horizontally, aiming low for the zombie's knees.

Noah felt a surge of satisfaction as his blow landed with devastating force, immediately incapacitating the zombie. The impact was so powerful that it dislocated the creature's knee, causing it to collapse to the ground. Despite the intensity of the swing, Noah's grip on his hammer remained steadfast, his fingers clinging to the handle with a vice-like grip.

The third zombie continued to approach while Noah was still preoccupied with the current zombie. He was set on finishing what he started as he turned towards the approaching zombie. He wasted no time in kicking the zombie in its chest without holding back. The force of the impact sent the zombie stumbling backward, momentarily disoriented by the unexpected attack. However, Noah paid little heed to the results of his kick, his mind laser-focused on the task at hand. With a steely resolve, he quickly shifted his gaze back to the original zombie, determined to finish what he had started and eliminate the threat before him.

Despite the dislocated knee, the targeted zombie relentlessly attempted to rise, its undead nature overriding any sense of pain or injury.

Bang!

Noah's relentless assault continued as he delivered a powerful kick to the zombie's temple, sending it crashing back to the ground. Without hesitation, he followed up with a series of fierce stomps aimed at the back of its head, determined to incapacitate the undead creature once and for all.

Despite the intense barrage of blows, the zombie's skull proved to be remarkably resilient, requiring repeated strikes before finally caving in under the force of Noah's assault.

Argh!

Back to the present

"Urggh hahahaaaa damnit who the fuck goes around biting people? Ah, it hurts!" Noah cried amidst his laughter, a habit he obtained after the countless beatings he partook in over the years.

Due to the abrupt pain and his fatigued body, Noah was finally awakened from his skill that took over his rationale. Maybe if he didn't use the skill to its fullest extent for its biggest power increase then he could've been more aware of himself and his surroundings.

Since he was using the skill, it appeared that his killing instincts took precedence or at least ignored the use of his observation skill. He wasn't able to make out the last zombie that approached from behind him, taking a clean chunk out of his shoulder, instead of trying to gnaw through his flesh, the zombie was attempting to cleanly bite all the way through.

Faced with the life-threatening threat of the unforeseen zombie, it forced Noah to find strength within himself to shove the zombie away. He was lucky to have done so; the searing pain shooting through his shoulder showcased the zombies abnormal bite force.

Despite the pain in his shoulder and overwhelming fatigue, Noah refused to succumb to despair. Instead, he focused all his energy on finding a solution to his predicament. The thought of dying here, especially after everything he had endured, was inconceivable to him. It felt as though he had been waiting his whole life for an opportunity like this, and he wasn't about to let it slip away so easily.

Because of his rational thinking, he was able to feel that familiar tug on the back of his mind.

'A notification at this time, please, please give me something I can use!' He immediately dove into his consciousness, he was not at all disappointed.

Noah made a quick decision, channeling all five of his attribute points into his stamina without hesitation. In the heat of the moment, he knew he needed the extra energy to sustain himself during the imminent battle with the zombies. While he didn't have time to contemplate alternative strategies for reallocating his stats, he believed that boosting his stamina was the most prudent choice for his immediate survival. Plus, the increased stamina would continue to benefit him in the long term, even beyond this current crisis.

Finishing allocating his points, he was back within his dorm room with only a few seconds passing. Within those few seconds was enough time for both zombies to recover and make their way forward in his direction. This time, after adding his points to his stamina, now making it 26 when including his immortal body passive; Noah felt reinvigorated again to at least finish off the last two zombies while having enough energy to spare to defend himself later if need be.

With his shoulder still in pain from being bitten earlier, he knew the extra stamina wouldn't allow him to magically be able to wield his hammer right now. Thankfully with his killing instincts no longer active, his passive hunter's sight was now taking effect helping him notice the broken bat behind the two approaching zombies. It would be dangerous for him to make a go for it now; even though zombies were known for their lack of speed, they were still close enough to the bat to attack him by the time he reached it, so he could only wait for them to approach.

It would be simpler to confront the zombies with his bare body. Kicks have proven to work so far, and naturally, he was efficient with his hands by now after his numerous brawls. Although the solution appeared simple, it still came with a lot of risk. Under the use of the skill, he may have been reckless, but he wasn't willing to test his 'immunity' against the virus more than he's done already nor was he willing to risk being injured more than he had either.

Now that he was able to think things through, he wanted to be assured that he could protect himself after this was over, and to do that, he would need all the energy he could save.

As soon as the zombies came to a noticeable distance where Noah was sure he could move around them while safely retrieving his weapon, he took his plan into effect. Taking as wide of a left that the limited space allowed to go around them, he sprinted towards the weapon as fast as his tired body would allow.

With a swift and decisive motion, Noah tore away the broken portion of the bat that was hanging on by a thread, leaving him with a significantly shortened weapon. What remained was a crude makeshift club, barely a foot long, with jagged splits running along its length.

When he looked towards the zombies, he realized that he did more than just move around them. Due to them trying to follow Noah's movements while he maneuvered past them, it caused them to line up with one another, making the fight a lot simpler for him in the end.

Initially, he was already determined to be bitten once more or at the very least scratched since fighting both zombies at the same time with such a short weapon would be more than a chore given his current condition.

He couldn't allow this chance to slip by. Just like before, but adding in a jump to receive more force, he kicked the first zombie in the chest, sending it into the one lingering behind, causing the two to fall to the ground. The option of preserving what little was left of his bat crossed his mind. He could stomp the zombies on the ground like he did when he was under the influence of his skill.

He hesitated before giving up the impulse to do so when he saw the position they were in after their fall. He long noticed the unique trait of these zombies being immune to pain. If he were to attempt to attack them barehanded, then he would have to risk the zombies' clutches while doing so, and they would most likely succeed in grabbing him.

Despite the limitations imposed by his injured shoulder and the deteriorating condition of his bat, Noah knew he had to act swiftly to take out at least one of them and fast, so he was forced to choose the next worst option. With a determined war cry, he lunged forward, using the momentum of his jump to drive the splintered end of his bat directly into the face of the closest zombie.
