'Fuck nobles and their stupid parties. That woman really dumped this job to us.'
How long am I supposed to stand here and follow the whims of these brats?
'Probably another hour? You know what, I've had enough of this "practical" class. I'm gonna sleep.'
Fine fine stop screaming in my head, It's tiring enough to listen to these brats.
"You there, serve us more biscuits and cake."
The girl haughtily orders me. She is dressed in a pink dress making her look lovely but her behaviour is quite rude. Not willing to anger her lest she causes a fuss, I serve the brat the cake and biscuits she desires acting the way Miss Daisy told me to.
Liana glances at me and looks away, chatting along with the others. I return back to the corner of the room, stand there and watch this farce play out.
"Lady Liana, I have brought this present for you please accept it."
"Thank you Lady Therese."
"Lady Liana, we have a Tea party at our House the next week. Please grace us with your presence."
"Of course Lady Viola, I will be delighted to attend a party hosted by the Countess."
Such conversation was being exchanged between the noble girls. All of them hide poison within their words and flatter the powerful ones. It makes me nauseous.
'Nobles are two-faced people after all. See, even that girl is acting and playing along with this farce. No matter how kind she pretends to be she never actually interacts with them keeping them at a distance.'
That is true, though she has helped out the girls who don't seem to be able to join the conversation and is amiable to everyone, she doesn't allow anyone of them to get close to her. Truly she's the daughter of a high noble, though she is weird from time to time.
"Lady Liana, it is time for us to depart. It is late after all."
"Oh my, I didn't realise the time pass as it was quite enjoyable to speak with you ladies."
"Thank you for your hospitality Lady Liana. We shall meet again later."
Finally the noble girls bid farewell and left the Marquess estate. When the last carriage leaves the gates, Liana drops her smile.
"Aelin follow me.", she beckons me.
I quietly follow her as she heads to her chamber. Only after entering the room does she speak.
"What do you think of today's tea party Aelin?", she asks as she walks to the window.
"How am I supposed to answer Milady?" I question back, unsure hoe to answer her.
"Just tell me what you think of it. Without lying of course. Don't worry I won't be offended by anything you say."she looks at me waiting for my answer.
Should I really tell her what I feel? I might get in trouble if I say it though.
"You should speak up. Don't make her wait." the boy's voice interrupts my thoughts.
"Aelin greets Milord."
"Ashbel why are you here?" Liana expresses her dislike to his interruption.
"Did you forget that you're still under punishment for violating the rules? Don't make another fuss now Lia. I don't want to punish you further."
"Oh you came to see me only for delivering punishment. You never show up when I call for you but Father's single word can make you come to see me. I'm so touched." Lady Lia speaks with her voice laced with sarcasm.
In answer Lord Ashbel just glares at her. His aura oozing displeasure.
Can't I just leave? You two can continue this sibling quarrel without me just fine.
After staring down at each other for a bit Ashbel looks at me, "Speak what's on your mind. Don't worry like she said you won't be punished."
He sits on the sofa, looking at me with his sharp eyes. Liana sighs, accepting her brother's presence. She sits on the sofa as well.
Geh, this has really gotten troublesome.
"This may be unpleasant to hear but let me speak. I think that it's a waste of time to have these kind of parties when the commoners are suffering from the aftereffects of the war. The people are starving, they are unable to pay the taxes for which they are suffering. Rather than have a party shouldn't the nobles work to solve those problems?"
"That may be so, but these 'useless' parties are also an important aspect of noble society." Ashbel says, "It may seem unfair to you who's a commoner, but interacting and maintaining the relationships with other nobles is important for work. Only with the support from the lesser nobles can we ensure the smooth functioning of our Fief."
"I'm sorry for my ignorance Milord. As a commoner I am indeed unaware of the noble society. All I know is that I have seen people die and suffer without any aid from the nobles."
"Geez Ashbel, you're always so uptight. I just asked for her opinion. I'm not saying that it's wrong to participate in these events,ok? Don't start lecturing me now and Aelin too please don't judge us alright. Not all nobles are that way."
"Yes Milady, I will keep it in mind."
"You may leave now Aelin. I will see you later during the lesson."
"Have a good rest Milady and Milord."
