The next several months proved that caring for children wasn't something Eve was naturally predisposed for. It was therefore a great thing that she wasn't in it alone, and where she didn't know what to do, Victor was always nearby to fix her mistakes. He took to fatherhood like a fish takes to water, just as Eve always knew he would.

It was only perfectly reasonable. He had everything a father needed—love for their daughter, for Eve, a strict but gentle hand, patience and, of course, ability to read thoughts. When Eve grew puzzled trying to decipher the meaning of Clarissa's cries, Victor always knew what was the reason for her distress.
