Chapter 101: The undead curiosity

A scalding wind ruffled Eve's bangs and the hems of her light jacket. It brought with it smells of ash, dust, and rot. The aromas that were like a glimpse into the future, showing all that will be left if Eve fails.

She stood on the wall. Before her was the sea of zombies spanning on hundreds, thousands of meters away from the wall. Behind her was all the humanity. Not just citizens of Radiant Base. If Nexus won there, he will, eventually, kill everyone else as well. They had even fewer chances to resist.

Around Eve stood the best soldiers of the base, augmented by three hexapods, charged to the brim and with laser turrets ready to shoot. Next to her stood her assistants, Victor, and Duglas. And several man-sized crates full of nanite cores were stacked at the side.

"I and my men will protect you with our lives, Doctor Ziffer," Duglas said and put a fist to his chest. "We know what's at stake."
