Chapter 40: Their Intention

Damon surmised he must have fallen asleep sometime later because the last thing he remembered doing was running his hand through Red's soft hair. It had felt so good that he continued doing so until sleep carried him off, it seems. 

His neck and back ached like crazy and he realized it was because Red was sleeping on his body; her entire weight was thrown on him and the bed dipped under the pressure. Damon smirked, he wondered what she would think if she woke up to see herself in this position; her head laid on his chest with her hand wrapped around him possessively. They almost looked like a couple. 

No, Damon shot the thought out of the word. Dating Red was out of the picture. He was destined to die and would not leave a broken heart behind when he leaves this earth nor was he ready to have his heart broken like his late brother Mark after his weakness rejected him. He had seen how pathetic he lived till he died; he was not ready to experience that as well.
