Chapter 17: Your Gravestone In Two Years

Damon couldn't understand why he lied to Nessa but one thing was for sure, he didn't want her to fall head over heels in love with Luke. Red was his playmate and he would not let her suffer from unrequited love, he told himself. Luke is a coward who isn't man enough to admit his feelings for Naomi.

But was that the only reason he did that? Why was guilt gnawing at his heart? He didn't do it out of jealousy, it was for her safety. But when did he start looking out for the safety of others?

"We need to talk," a stern voice said, blocking his path.

Damon looked up to discover Luke in front of him with an angry scowl. Well, that was expected.

"You look so furious, perhaps you go take out your aggression on someone else, I'm not your punching bag," Damon remarked and shoved past him but Luke grabbed his arm.

He eyed his grip yet Luke didn't budge at all, if anything he looked dead serious.

"Are you high on drugs or something?" Damon asked, unfazed by his furious mood.

"I will be if you don't play along" Luke snarled, refusing to take his grip off him. Veins protruded from his forehead and it was apparent to anyone watching that he was seething in anger.

"Now what?" Damon asked, hands in the pockets of his jeans with a nonchalant approach. He looked bored but in reality, the boy was curious as to what Luke had to say.

"What did you say to Nessa?" He growled.

"What are you talking about?" Damon feigned ignorance

"Don't play games with me, Damon" Luke spoke through gritted teeth, his hands forming fists at his sides.

He was obviously having a hard time controlling his anger

Luke continued, "I know it was you!" He roared "Nessa started behaving that way right after I left her alone with you, so don't you dare lie to me. What did you tell her, Damon?!"

Damon breathed out, staring straight at him saying "What did you think I told her if not everything about you?"

His reply narrowed Luke's eyes into slits and yes, he had expected it but the punch met his face before he could deter it. Damon staggered back from the impact of the blow, Luke does have a strong fist.

"Why?" He continued to incite the angry Luke by smirking challengingly at him, "Are you scared she might discover you're nothing but a coward who can't admit his feelings?"

Luke threw another punch at him but Damon intercepted it this time by holding his hand and shoved it away.

"Don't think I'll just stand and watch you bully me" he spat, reminding Luke  that he had a fist of his own.

"Nessa doesn't need a scumbag like you harassing her" Luke spoke his mind at last. He couldn't understand Damon's attraction towards her but he wanted the asshole as far away from the girl as possible.

Unfortunately, he met a persistent scumbag.

"Nor does she require a coward like you toying with her feelings" Damon retorted.

Luke shot lasers at him with his eyes "I might have lost Naomi to you but not Nessa"

His face creased from amusement,

"Let's see if you have the guts to keep to that promise" he retorted, receiving Luke's heated glare.

It felt good to have the upper hand in an argument but Damon's victory didn't last long.

"That's right," Luke stated, "I'll be sure to remind you of this argument on your gravestone in two years"

Damon stilled at once, that was a sensitive topic for him. That bastard crossed a line he shouldn't.

His cold gaze swept over Luke,

"No problem," he told him with a fake sweet smile that sends chills down his spine," Get in line"

There were a whole lot of people awaiting his death. It was no surprise, really.

"Since we're done, I'll be leaving" Damon announced with a taut voice. Whatever Luke said to him had seriously affected his emotions.

"This isn't over" Luke declared after him as Damon walked out on him.

Damon's jaw was clenched tight as he headed to his car and drove off, making sure to leave enough dust that'd give the asshole a coughing fit.

Great anger bubbled inside of him, Naomi must have told Luke about the curse. Well, he should have known such a thing would happen considering how close both of them were- they weren't even blood-related.

Unfazed by Luke's threat, Damon returned the following week to school intending to seek out his worthy playmate.

Find Red and have fun with her, that was his target. She was the only one capable of keeping him entertained.

But then, he couldn't find her

Damon almost gave up on finding her when he spotted a purple-haired girl standing in front of Red's locker with her back turned to him.

He approached, tapping on her shoulder "Hey" he said, "Have you seen Re....." Damon blinked - several times- to confirm he was not daydreaming.

Damon was stunned and puzzled, staring at the purple-haired version of Red. She was wearing a purple wig and a half-cut tank top which showed off her midriff and had a low cut which was worn beneath her rugged denim jacket and ripped jeans. He couldn't believe his eyes

"Hey, babe" Red purred seductively "Searching for me?"

Damon stood frozen to the ground, this absolutely wasn't Red. The Red he knew would snort in disgust whenever he called her name.

"You must have missed me so badly that you came looking for me," She said in her sickening fake voice that made him want to throw up.

"You know what? Let's go to some corner and do something productive," she said suggestively, playing with the buttons on his shirt.

It finally clicked in Damon's head; the clothes, wig, voice; she was copying Rachel. Everyone knew how much he hated that stalker that had once bothered his life and yet she thought copying her would get him as far away from him? Well, guess what? She won.

"You should've asked and I would have granted you the favor without copying that psychopath," Damon spat angrily at her and left.

He was so disappointed in her but she got what she wanted anyway.

He would stay away from her as she wished.
