"Arrogance can get you killed? Hmph, I'd like to see how you'll kill me."
Kankurō said, his eyes glinting menacingly, snorting and growling at Sasuke's attitude.
He flung Konohamaru, who had bumped into him, away.
With a twitch of his fingers, an almost invisible chakra thread shot toward Sasuke.
"Idiot."
Sasuke said, observing keenly, snorting coldly, a burst of chakra from his feet destroying the chakra thread.
His eyes turned crimson, his right hand in his pocket quickly forming a one-handed hand seal.
Naruto caught Konohamaru, glaring indignantly at Kankurō, preparing to strike.
'Genjutsu: Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique!'
Sasuke said inwardly, activating the genjutsu through his Sharingan as Kankurō met his gaze.
This D-rank genjutsu showed one's deepest fears.
Kankurō's pupils constricted.
As if seeing something terrifying, his body trembled, breathing heavily, legs weakening.
"Kankurō." Temari said, her eyes narrowing, slapping his shoulder to disrupt his chakra flow.
"Arg… Genjutsu? When did he form the hand seals?"
Kankurō said, coming to his senses, face changing, avoiding Sasuke's gaze, taking a sharp breath.
He'd fallen into genjutsu with a glance.
Terrifying!
Naruto, ready to fight, looked bored, his gaze filled with disdain.
"You're here, no need to hide." Sasuke said, shifting his gaze to a nearby tree, speaking coldly.
His crimson two-tomoe Sharingan shone, exuding coolness.
"Sasuke-kun is so handsome!"
Sakura said, clasping her hands to her face, heart blooming with joy.
"Sasuke-nii is so cool!"
Konohamaru and his two followers exclaimed, eyes sparkling with stars
Temari showed a glimmer of surprise, a faint blush on her cheeks.
"Someone? Where is someone? Sasuke, what are you talking about!" Naruto said, confused, looking around, calling out as Sasuke stole the spotlight.
"Kankurō, you're a disgrace to the village." a stream of sand appeared beside Kankurō, solidifying into a red-haired, dark-eyed youth with a gourd, reprimanding him indifferently.
"I, Gaara… I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…" Kankurō said, recalling the genjutsu's terror, stammering an apology.
"Useless, do you want to keep embarrassing yourself?" Gaara said, frowning, interrupting coldly, turning his head stiffly.
"Your name. I'm very interested in you!"
Gaara said, staring at Sasuke blankly, a hint of bloodlust in his eyes.
"How rude, shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"
Sasuke said, smiling, teasing at Gaara's darkened expression.
If he missed this chance, there'd be no opportunity after Naruto's talk-no-jutsu!
"Sabaku no Gaara." Gaara said, looking deeply at Sasuke, pondering, then speaking his name.
"Hmm, I know. But I don't want to tell you my name yet. Naruto, Sakura, let's go." Sasuke said, shrugging, smiling lazily under Kankurō and Temari's astonished expressions.
He turned and walked away.
Gaara was bewildered by the change.
"Huh? We're leaving? He hasn't asked for my name yet? Sasuke!" Naruto said, calling out loudly, turning to Gaara.
"Exactly, I haven't asked their purpose in Konoha." Sakura said, reacting seriously, eyeing Gaara and his companions warily.
"Don't you know what concerns your interests? Here, our pass. We're in Konohagakure for the Chūnin Exams."
Temari said, showing her pass, her gaze lingering on Sasuke's retreating figure.
This guy is interesting.
"Chūnin Exams? Sasuke-kun, wait for me." Sakura said, heart tightening at Temari's gaze, running toward Sasuke.
"Um, I'm Uzumaki Naruto. You, the painted face, and Gaara, right? I'll remember you!" Naruto said, hurrying to catch up with Konohamaru and his followers.
Kankurō's face darkened, gritting his teeth.
Painted face? That brat.
"Those Sharingan. Uchiha Sasuke, huh? An interesting prey…"
Gaara muttered, staring at Sasuke's figure with a chilling expression.
This sent a chill down Kankurō's spine, suppressing his actions.
In Hokage's Office.
"This year's top student, Uchiha Sasuke. Not bad!"
Asuma said, exhaling smoke, full of praise, watching the confrontation via crystal ball.
To hold his own against Sunagakure and preserve Konohagakure's dignity, a true genius.
"That boy…" Kakashi said, looking at Gaara thoughtfully, his lips curving in satisfaction.
"Let's begin the recommendation meeting." Hiruzen Sarutobi said, expression solemn, dispelling the ninjutsu, causing Kakashi and the elite jōnin to step back.
"Ahem! We officially begin the Chūnin Exam recommendations. Kakashi, Asuma, Kurenai. Genin teams with over 8 D-rank missions can participate, though Konoha's custom suggests twice that number. Have you decided?"
Third Hokage said, gravely, looking at the three.
Kakashi stepped forward without hesitation.
His efforts were for this moment.
"Hokage-sama. Team 7, led by Kakashi. Uchiha Sasuke, Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura. In the name of Hatake Kakashi, I recommend them for the Chūnin Selection Exam." Kakashi said, forming the Hand Seal of Reconciliation, voice resonant.
"Hokage-sama.Team 10, led by Asuma. Nara Shikamaru, Yamanaka Ino, Akimichi Chōji. In the name of Sarutobi Asuma, I recommend them for the Chūnin Exam." Asuma said, stepping forward, eyes solemn.
"Hokage-sama. Team 8, led by Kurenai. Inuzuka Kiba, Hyūga Hinata, Aburame Shino. In the name of Yūhi Kurenai, I recommend them for the Chūnin Exam."
Kurenai said, not to be outdone.
Three newly promoted genin teams participating in the Chūnin Exams caused everyone's expressions to change.
The first time in five years that graduating genin joined, and three teams at once!
