Chapter 62: Rules and Principles

Betting House.

Due to Gild's group's protests, Trevor's threats, and Jun's increasingly menacing remarks, the rules of the game had been changed three times.

"Haha, we beat the house!"

Jun arrogantly exclaimed, causing Gild's group to be so furious they could have bitten their own tongues. Jun's mouth constantly spewed venomous words, and he even bet with his eyes closed, yet, to everyone's surprise, he kept winning. Unexpectedly, he had crushed them to the point where their outbursts became crooked and their gazes lost.

The triumphant Jun and Trevor were busy dividing the winnings. Seeing all those bags of coins disappearing into that kid's and the monster's coats, many believed there was some kind of portal where things could be stored and retrieved at will. When they saw Jun give Trevor two thousand gold coins, the bystanders clenched their bodies in sorrow, as if they wanted to cry.

Gild's smile now seemed like a twisted, maniacal expression, as if the muscles in his face were convulsing. Trevor, on the other hand, said, "Jun, I can't believe you gave me so much money; are you sure you don't mind?"

You already handed your bodyguard the coin bags. If I said something so small that bothered me, wouldn't I seem like I was short on cash? Jun thought about this and replied, "Of course I don't mind! Why would I? If it weren't for your good luck, how could I have won so much? It's only natural we split our winnings."

Chung's ears twitched nearby as he slyly remarked, "Where's my share?"

Jun spun around sharply, narrowing his gaze, and muttered, "Maybe you deserve a few coins, but Trevor took half of my winnings, and you'll probably get a salary for this. As men, let's not be greedy."

"Haha! I was just messing with you. Obviously, I don't think I deserve a penny, but now that things have come this far, don't you need a risk manager? You know, someone everyone hires for all kinds of work. If I don't leave here with you, I'll probably end up in a coffin or diced into pieces," Chung said with a pale expression. Trevor had betrayed him so suddenly that he'd surely get beaten by these people if he stayed.

Is he afraid they'll kill him? He might not leave this place alive. He seems like a good worker and shows some skill in business, so it wouldn't hurt to have him help expand my businesses across the kingdom. Jun thought carefully and decided to accept this man, who seemed quite money-hungry, believing that if he was after wealth, he'd be good at making it.

Jun stood up, stretching as he grinned mischievously. "Do any of you, my dear gambling friends, have more money to bet? If not, I'm afraid I'll have to leave, as I have a meeting to attend! I've only made a little money after betting for over half an hour. What a damn disappointment! Don't you agree, Trevor?"

"You can't leave!" Luhan grew desperate. At that moment, his mind and the minds of his friends had turned into useless garbage, with Gild among them. They still couldn't comprehend how they had lost. The continuous defeats had dulled their wits, akin to someone who had gotten drunk.

Each of them should have been better gamblers than Jun, who was just a kid. Yet they, who had played against two idiots, miserably lost everything. Not to mention, Jun had amassed slightly more than they had, leaving them unable to entertain the idea that he had used some trickery to cheat.

What kind of explanation could they offer to make sense of this?

"I still want to bet with you; I have goods to wager!" Gild removed his pink gold necklace and placed it on the table.

"Haha, do you really think I'll accept your damaged goods?" Jun sneered. "You want to keep betting with that worthless object? It'd be better if you went home and brought more money."

Jun had already put all the bags of coins into his door-shaped bag and was about to turn around.

"Wait!" Gild turned to his friends and said, "Take out everything you have, right now."

Luhan and the rest were very aware of the miserable consequences of going home without a single coin. They immediately took off everything of value from their bodies and placed it on the table, whether it was gemstones, jewelry, or weapons.

"This is one of the best swords you can get from regular blacksmiths, and this is a purple iron bow, both of which are part of the bet! The value of these items must be worth at least five thousand gold coins, or even more. But now, everything will be all or nothing!" Gild stared directly at Jun with bloodshot eyes and said, "In addition, you'll get several sets of top-quality women's clothing. What do you say?"

Trevor, who was about to leave, looked on in surprise at these actions. He knew how expensive books were, and they were rare to come across.

Jun glanced at the items on the table, and what caught his interest the most was that sword, which would make a fine secondary weapon. The women's clothing might interest Kyou Kai, who was on his way here with some men to control this city, which would serve as a trade hub between the villages under his control.

In the end, Jun revealed a sinister smile and said, "I agree on one condition: I want the hand your friend used to point at me, and when I leave this place, that will be his only loss."

Everyone frozen at Jun's words. Who makes a demand like that? It wasn't about money or jewels—it was a real hand. The boy who had called Jun and Trevor cheaters began trembling in fear but clenched his teeth and said, "I'll give you my tongue if you want, but if you lose, all your money will be ours!"

Gild's face turned pale. Only now did he realize he was facing the Lord of the City. He finally noticed the plaque on Jun's waist. His mouth shut tight, his heart raced to his throat, and his blood chilled with fear.

Jun noticed Gild's sudden realization and smiled. "It seems you've figured it out. You'd better shut up and not speak again until I leave, or nothing will be left but forgotten memories of what you once were."

Trevor remained silent, eager to finish the final bet.

"There are rules and principles. You know very well that a man should not be disrespected, let alone a lady who has nothing to do with this. I'll be prudent and won't cause any trouble in this city, but some things must be done." Jun said as he returned to the table.

Gild, overwhelmed by fear, couldn't speak, his body drained of strength. He had heard of the new lord's cruelty on the battlefield, and he carefully pondered a way to make amends for the disrespect he had shown here, though he didn't know where to begin.
