Chapter 62: Ride.

There were buildings on either side, and the cold wind was interrupted by the flames behind me. People, armoured and staring right at the line of buggiez that our's was a part of. We were clearly late, but this was manageable. If I played my cards right.

I stood up through the sunroof with a machine gun I snagged from the mush of a man right before leaving.

"Luha, get everything ready... We can't stop once we start, okay?"

"Unnhnn."

I heard hard revs as the buggy floor under me shook.

"Rune, are the other one's ready?"

"Yes."

All I had to do was ensure that the buggy wouldn't stop. Under any circumstances.

"LET'S GO!" I shouted.

The buggy accelerated like there were boosters stuck behind it. The pressure from the wind and the inertia almost cracked my back. But I pushed ahead for dear life.

I didn't know whether the vehicle was bulletproof or not. Luha claimed it wasn't. But it wasn't like she had bullets to test it out.

Moreover, this buggy was a hunk of metal that wouldn't even melt under the flames behind me and glass that could withstand it as well. People hit behind taxis in movies to save themselves from bullet shots. This buggy had to be more durable than that at least.

I was counting on it.

My targets were right in front of me patiently waiting for their turns.

I didn't have much to aim towards. Their bodies were just as covered. But this time it wasn't their death I was after. Just incapacitation. As long as they weren't able to stop or slow the vehicle, we were fine.

Luckily, machine guns had the bite to push even kitted people away.

I aimed for the knees. No matter how much armour they had, if you forced a hinge joint to bend backwards it would break.

I did just that.

With my incredible dexterity and god-tier aim from all the VRFPS I had played over the past 5 years my shot never missed.

The two men running in front of us had their knees absolutely destroyed.

But that didn't mean there wasn't any retaliation. Shots were actively fired until the terrorists got too close to the car. Then they stopped to cease any accidental friendly fire.

Just for my safety, I had a helmet on. It was oversized and stinky. But it blocked any bullet that came my way.

If this was actual combat, I would have taken it off since it completely ruined my balance. But this was a shoot all situation.

The buggy withstood the bullets. Which wasn't surprising but it was welcome.

Shoving through the corspe,

On a one-track slaughter way,

Over bodies, we go,

Crushing skulls on the way.

Too soon? Well Christmas was a while away.

We were barely a couple of meters away from the main ground where most of the people were gathered. Luha picked up the speed again. She wasn't a bad driver. But had she driven like this on an actual road she would have gotten arrested.

Both for underage and reckless driving.

The path cleared and to our sides, there was the burning Junior High building. The one we escaped from. It legitimately looked haunted. The doors and sides looked like they were about to collapse.

Luha pulled the buggy to the side and went offroad. With the buggy's suspension, it felt like nothing more than some mild turbulence... IF YOU WERE SITTING BELOW!

To me, I felt every little bit of the sunroof bury its way into my side through the bulletproof vest.

But just as quickly as the turn began, it ended.

The ground was relatively empty since most of the terrorists spread out to find the culprit behind the school message. Too bad for them, the culprits were right here.

I read the time as 45 minutes remaining and saw that the dots were almost all behind us.

As we sped through to the ground the scale of attack became apparent. Fires, rubble, broken stalls, blood, people who weren't lucky enough to run away, the corpse of the principal, everything looked like a war scene.

The poor principal was lying with his hands out as if he was guarding children. Despite his personality being a drag, he did love the kids more than anything.

I felt pity.

People legitimately died. People who could have been saved if Yuuno was here. Or if I decided to become powerful. But why should I endure the pain that came with the Demon Lord's powers?

I put a value on people's life. I died trying to save everyone in my previous life. I wasn't planning on doing it again.

As long as the people important to me were safe I would never consider getting strong.

It was the world's fault for not being at peace.

By the time we navigated around the rubble-filled ground, the path outside got filled. The only way to escape was to either run them over or somehow kill them. It was like a zombie apocalypse and because the terrorists seemingly had no will to survive. With their hostages gone, these terrorists were just hungry dogs waiting for slaughter when the military arrived.

Luha took getting us out in her own hands. There was a jerk to our left and we sped towards the right into the extension of the ground.

"CALM DOWN, YOU ALMOST BROKE MY SPINE WITH THAT TURN!" I complained.

"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I CAN DRIVE CALMLY?!"

"No… But-"

"JUST SHUT UP AND SHOOT!"

Wow, she was aggressive.

The ground was littered with broken stalls and there were clear temporary streets we had made for the festival. Bumps on the ground she ran over.

Navigating was hard. The other buggies especially. The team on the other side tried to cope up with Luha's erratic method of driving. It was a tall order. Consequently, their buggiez were a lot slower than ours.

The terrorists started to climb atop their vehicles.

Mind you, there was a huge flame in the back. But nothing stopped them.

I turned around and started busting their knees. They grabbed onto the buggiez and I grabbed the trigger. They grabbed the tire I pulled the fire. They tried the run I used the gun.

It was sorta entertaining shooting them down and watching them tumble over. It was like one of those minigames.

Hah. If the people around me knew what was going through my mind they'd think that I'm an insane psychopath. But I mean this was legit a game compared to the actual war we had. Sure the destruction was there but when you include magic this school would have already been wiped off the map.

Of course, I was a little on the edge because… well… except for slightly above average body properties I was just a normal powerless man with the enlightenment of a God.

The reason why I didn't feel the pain from the bullet in me was that I was already used to a lot of pain. My body wasn't on the same page though. As the adrenaline slowly started to go down, I got closer to fainting. But not very, because there was still plenty of action to keep me awake.

I was shooting the shit out of the terrorists when Luha took a sudden left onto the path again. A couple of seconds later the path opened up to the fields outside and the sight of the dead gatekeeper hit my periphery.

Damn it! He was a funny man. Why did he have to-

And then it hit me. A barrier. Not a physical one, but a barrier that blocked any sound from exiting.

"Sound manipulation?" Not a terribly powerful skill from my time, but in the modern world with guns and bombs, it was rather useful.

But to cast a sound field this large you would need a decently powerful mana user.

It's probably a mana device.' Was my conclusion.

And then a different sound altogether attacked our ears as we escaped the school. From behind the other buggiez, I heard two motors. They quickly navigated around the buggiez and came into sight.

"LUHA WE HAVE MOTORBIKES ON OUR TAILS!"

"SHOOT THEM!"

Well, I was planning to. I put the gun up to the overhang and pulled the trigger again. Nothing.

"I RAN OUT OF BULLETS!"

From what I could see the rest of the village was fine. So the terrorists only aimed at messing up the school. The near-empty environment meant that I could try something a little crazier.

"Rune can you call the landowners?" The wind seemed to have blown my voice away.

"I can't. The signals are jammed and they aren't on the school's network."

Oh well, the plan got shot down as soon as it was conceived.

The motorbikes rode up beside the buggy and started knocking on the door. Wait! They were in my range now! How fortunate!

I went back into the car and opened the door. And boy. It wasn't like in the movies.

When going at around a hundred even an open window is enough to drag the car down. This open door was what it would feel like if I was in front of an open door in an aeroplane. I immediately got yanked out.

But I held onto the door with all my might. The car was stable because of the air path Luha had forged.

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING YOU DUMB FUCK?!" I heard Rune shout from the lens. "Luha slow the car down to 60."

"Got it."

Complying, the speed of the car slowed down to tolerable speed. We were a little under a minute away from our place at this speed. And I had to get rid of the two motorbikes by then.

My feet were touching the ground as a decelerating motorcyclist grabbed onto me.

I could very easily die right now. In fact, I could swear that the one behind was pulling out a weapon.

I let the door go as the buggy rushed ahead.
