Chapter 34: Defenceless as a rabbit

In the study, Chris opened the minibar and observed the drinks in it.

«I'm sure there's a good wine in here,» he said. «Do you prefer red or white? Oh, I can find a rosé if I look hard enough.»

«I want what you usually drink,» she said. She eyed the crystal set in the corner, made of a few glasses for brandy and a bottle filled to half. «You always drink it while you're relaxing, right?»

«That's brandy,» he said. «It's quite strong. I don't suggest it if you're not used to alcohol.»

«Am I in danger here?» she chuckled. «And I can hold my liquor!»

He sighed. In the end, she was right. There was no safer place for her to drink. He wouldn't take advantage of her state even though it would be a great temptation. That was because he had a long-term plan for her. He wouldn't risk ruining everything for a single moment of bliss.
