Chapter 90: Ready or not.
“I am ready. I am not afraid.” Chasm's voice shook, betraying his hidden fear. Of all the things he’d done in the universe, this was the strangest. Never had a master made him feel both warm and comforted and simultaneously needy and hungry.
“You need not worry, Chasm. I will not hurt you,” Rhylent promised. “I am asking for a little of your trust. I know you have no reason to give it to me, but I am asking for it all the same.”
“You may have it, Rhylent.”
It was the way Rhylent said Chasm’s name. His name from the alien was like a declaration that did make Chasm want to trust the Dagerstanteen. True, he had no reason, but then again, so far, Rhylent hadn’t done anything overly terrible to either him or Norwell.
“It’s fun. I promise.” Norwell grinned at him, and her beautiful eyes sparkled with love and care. Norwell he could trust. She had never lie to him, and she never would.
