Chloe swallowed hard because of the proximity of their bodies. She could feel his irregular breathing, which showed that he was as affected as she was at that moment.
“I don’t owe you anything, Evan.” she said rueful. “Nothing. Not even explanations. That contract was never signed.”
Her words surprised him. He felt a twinge in his heart, which made him walk away from her angrily.
“Why do you always come up with this contract issue? Can’t you see, Chloe? It’s crystal clear!” he yelled, losing his control over the situation. “It was never about the contract! That’s why we never signed it!”
Evan gripped her wrists tightly and shook her, looking into her eyes. “Is not evident enough?” he asked trying to control his tone of voice. “I love you!”
The accumulated tears blurred her eyes. After that statement, Chloe was unable to hold them anymore.
“Please, say something.” he shook her slightly.
“You’re hurting me.” she said faintly, looking at her wrists.
