At first, Gonzalo looked like he was speaking up for Mr. Gilbert, however, if I think about it again, I assumed he did it for me. Not on a personal level, of course, I bet Mr. Hudson contacted him beforehand and asked for his cooperation.
Looking at how Mr. Gilbert had fallen from his grace, it's unthinkable for Gonzalo to keep him by his side. No matter how Mr. Gilbert thinks he could get away after what he had done, he can't regain his reputation back. A big figure like Gonzalo had to be aware of this before anyone else.
There was no change in Mr. Hudson's expression. One couldn't possibly suspect he was working together with Gonzalo to bail me out of this situation. I didn't understand how adults' minds work, but I supposed they had political reasons for doing this.
