Kapitel 502: Debriefing

When Jake returned to his Floating Island, he found neither Crunch nor any of the other felines, but his Shadow Guide was pointing toward the planet B842 below him. If they had stayed true to form, the feline pride was probably hunting. It was also colder and darker than when he left, but that was to be expected since he had taken his Aether Sun Core with him.

Before greeting his comrades, and perhaps to stall for time, the first thing he did was to put the now much warmer and brighter Aether Sun Core back where it belonged. Because of its much higher output than before, he had to adjust the various force fields protecting the island to seal off the excess energy, but in the end he managed to get the temperature and radiation back to a satisfactory range.

Thank you for your patience this week.

I still have a lot of work to do but I''ll try to make up for it with the weekend.

A quick aside on comments I saw in the previous chapter. It's true that if you convert the Ordeal Credits into Aether points, it's not that significant compared to what Jake earns every day with his Purgatory.

I have two things to say to that. First of all, Players like Jake are anomalies and most often lead a Faction or have a Floating Island to develop etc... Second, the Ordeal Store is somewhat different from the Oracle Store.

This is something I was going to elaborate on later, but a little spoiler won't hurt. For the same reason that the Oracle doesn't save the Players after the Fourth Ordeal, the Oracle Store can't produce high level equipment, skills etc. on demand. Besides the Oracle Rank, which is an important criterion, some things are simply not available in the Oracle Store, unless they are very expensive.

The Ordeal Store is different. The good Players are treated extremely well and the rewards offered (especially the special rewards) are affordable, always within the possibilities of the Player concerned. These Bloodlines, Oracle Skills ect... might not be available in the Oracle Store.

In particular, I remind you that the Purgatory was made by a Rank 4 Aetherist. After a certain quality, the availability of a product becomes a problem and it is a very tough auction system based on supply and demand that is set up. If the Oracle can still produce anything out of Aether, the price will become so astronomical that it will no longer be worth it.
