Kapitel 13: Chapter 13: A Surprising Team Formation

Sarah's words shook me to the core. Her nonchalant attitude toward everything made it seem like she didn't care about anything else. Then again, considering her background, perhaps that was just the way she had been raised.

"I have to tell you, I might be a burden if you team up with me. Are you okay with that?" I asked, wanting to confirm it one last time. I didn't want her to regret her decision later on.

"Don't worry. I will protect you," Sarah replied confidently.

Looking into her eyes, I couldn't help but agree, thanking her for her kindness and willingness to help me. Even though I may be weak at the moment, during the test, I might become strong enough to not be a burden.

"What! You're going to take him and make him our team member!" A woman with short red hair and a graceful figure shouted at Sarah. It was already night, but she seemed unfazed by the late hour.

"Anna, calm down. I'm doing this for the sake of our team too," Sarah tried to calm down the woman called Anna.

Anna Riverfield had been Sarah White's best friend since childhood. Their families had close ties, and their friendship had blossomed over the years. Despite having a comfortable future provided by her own family, when she heard that Sarah was going to attend Miston City High School, Anna had decided without hesitation to follow her, choosing friendship over better options.

At school, Anna usually stuck by Sarah's side, except during the hours when Sarah immersed herself in the library. Anna preferred practical training for her combat magic rather than reading.

For the upcoming graduation test, she had already planned to team up with Sarah, and they already had three members in their team. Since a team consisted of four people, they needed just one more student to join them.

"Why him? Don't tell me you've really fallen for him?" Anna couldn't help but bring up the rumor about Sarah and William—the rumor that they liked each other and were secretly dating.

She knew the dating rumor was false, as she had asked Sarah about it herself. But observing the current situation, she couldn't shake the feeling that her friend truly had feelings for the young man.

"What are you saying? I genuinely want to help our team," Sarah defended herself.

Hearing her friend's explanation, Anna raised an eyebrow in doubt and asked, "So, how is he going to be of any help?"

"He will be our vanguard. I have known him for a long time, and I know that he practices martial arts. Even though he can't use magic, having someone who can support us at the front line is beneficial for beginner-level mages like us, don't you think?" Sarah explained.

Anna pondered Sarah's explanation for a moment, considering her friend's words. While magic was the primary focus in their education, Anna couldn't deny the importance of physical combat skills, especially in situations where magic alone might not be enough.

"I understand your point," Anna conceded, her expression softening. "But we need to be cautious. The graduation test can be dangerous, and we can't afford any weaknesses or liabilities."

Sarah nodded, acknowledging Anna's concern. "I've taken that into consideration. William may not possess magical abilities, but his martial arts skills are exceptional. He has been training diligently, and I believe he can provide valuable support and defense for our team."

Anna's doubt began to waver as she listened to Sarah's assurance. She had witnessed firsthand the determination in William's eyes during their combat classes, even though she hadn't realized the extent of his training.

"If you trust him, then I'll trust your judgment too," Anna finally admitted. "But we should still evaluate his skills and see if he's truly capable of handling the challenges we'll face."

Sarah smiled, grateful for Anna's acceptance. "Of course, we'll make sure to assess his abilities before the test. I don't want to put any of us at unnecessary risk."

With their concerns addressed, Sarah and Anna continued their preparations for the graduation test.
