Kapitel 10: Chapter 10: I Really Underestimated You_1

Translator: 549690339

"Looking for Christopher Lewis?" Tiana Cooper asked, puzzled.

Sophia Cloud nodded.

Last time, the medical expenses had been covered by him in advance, and now that she had some extra money, she needed to repay him as soon as possible.

"Do you want me to come with you?" Tiana Cooper offered.

She shook her head, indicating it wasn't necessary.

Taking the bus to Lewis's company, she found the contact information left from last time and sent Christopher Lewis a text message, her tone strictly formal.

[Hello, this is Sophia Cloud, do you remember me? I've gathered the money for the medical expenses from last time. Are you available now?]

A few minutes passed, and Christopher Lewis didn't reply. She stood outside the building, looking up at the towering skyscrapers, blinking.

Could he be not around?

Just as she was wondering, a figure approached from the front. Christopher Lewis, dressed in a business suit, appeared before her.

Sophia's eyes lit up with a smile, and she hurriedly stepped forward to bow deeply to him.

She couldn't speak, couldn't greet him; she could only use this motion in place of words.

Christopher Lewis quickly steadied her shoulders, his voice gentle, "What brings you here today?"

Sophia took a bank card out of her pocket and handed it to him with both hands.

He asked, "Is this for the medical expenses?"

She nodded with a smile, her eyes sparkling.

Christopher Lewis didn't refuse; after accepting it, he frowned and asked, "How did you manage to gather it?"

The Cloud Family had already fallen; her salary from the bar could not possibly be that high.

Sophia's eyes darkened, her eyelashes drooping to hide the emotions in her gaze, uncertain of how to explain.

All of these small gestures did not escape Christopher Lewis's notice. He quickly added, "I don't mean anything by it; it's alright if you don't want to talk about it."

After he spoke, she indeed looked up again with a smile, using her hands to gesture.

—May I invite you to dinner? I want to thank you.

If it hadn't been for his timely help last time, Arthur wouldn't have been admitted to the hospital so smoothly, and she wouldn't have had this long a breather.

Such a huge favor, she must not forget, and keep it always in her heart.

Christopher Lewis's smile was modest, "Of course, you can."

He scanned the surroundings and finally pointed toward an alleyway not far away, "Is it okay to go there?"

Sophia nodded eagerly like a pecking chick, her smile lifting the corners of her mouth ever so slightly, as if her whole being brightened, instantly adding color to the world.

The two walked side by side towards the place, and though it was only a two or three hundred meters away, this short distance felt insufficient; fate would have them encounter Leo Harrell and Evelyn Smith.

Evelyn Smith was affectionately linked arm in arm with Leo Harrell, as the two approached head-on. Clearly, there was a moment of surprise when they made eye contact.

Especially Sophia, whose gaze fell on their intertwined arms and then blinked, maintaining composure as she shifted her gaze elsewhere.

This morning, Leo Harrell had pointed at her nose, scolding her, accusing her of being shameless.

Yesterday, Leo Harrell had warned her to keep her distance from him in the future, that it would be best to pretend they didn't know each other.

With these thoughts, her heart turned bitter, and she also felt some anxiety.

Her gaze darted away, and involuntarily, she moved closer to Christopher Lewis's side, then quickened her pace, stepping into the small restaurant first.

As the four of them brushed past each other, Christopher Lewis also sensed the oddity; after sitting down in the restaurant, he made a discreet gesture to her.

—Are you alright?

Sophia understood and pursed her lips, shaking her head, but her gaze involuntarily kept searching outside for Leo Harrell's figure.

Outside the door, Leo Harrell naturally noticed as well. His eyes were cold, and he was about to leave.

But Evelyn Smith tugged at him, pointing toward Sophia's location, "Leo, isn't that my sister?"

"Mm."

Evelyn Smith smiled at the corners of her mouth, acting spoiled, "Then let's eat here too, I haven't seen my sister in so long, and I'd like to chat with her."

Leo Harrell initially didn't want to agree, but after seeing Christopher Lewis and Sophia Cloud laughing and talking together, he bizarrely agreed.

The two of them entered the small restaurant and chose seats right next to where Sophia and her company were sitting, only separated by a walkway.

Evelyn tapped into her potential and pretended to be very surprised, "Sister, is that your new boyfriend?"

The person she was referring to was Christopher.

Sophia glanced at him and shook her head at Evelyn.

Just then, Leo snorted coldly, without even glancing at them, full of mockery, "Mr. Lewis has quite unique tastes, fancying a mute of all people."

That nickname again!

Sophia had lost count of how many times she had heard it, her eyes filling with increasing disappointment, which was directed at Leo Harrell.

She clenched her hands, ready to stand up and defend Christopher.

Just in the nick of time, she felt a tightness around her waist as Christopher wrapped his arm around her, pulling her into an embrace that was ambiguous yet clearly a response to Leo's comment, "You guessed it right, Mr. Harrell, Sophia is indeed beautiful and kind-hearted, and I do quite fancy her."

Sophia...

Such an intimate nickname tightened Sophia's fingertips.

Yet, this comment made Leo angry, a fiery rage seeming to burst forth from his eyes.

With a cold expression, he kicked the table, causing the disposable glass on top to tremble and eventually roll off, shattering on the ground.

He stood up, swept a cold glance at Sophia, with an even larger smirk, "Sophia Cloud, I truly underestimated you!"

Having said that, he turned and left.

Evelyn, determined to have her way, chuckled softly and followed after him in her high heels.

Sophia paled with fright, and after they had gone some distance, she hurriedly pulled away from Christopher's embrace, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

She slowly typed a message—Sorry for involving you.

Christopher raised an eyebrow, "It's nothing, only, the bar you're now working at is a place Mr. Harrell frequently visits; she's sure to trouble you again."

Of course, Sophia was aware, especially after repeatedly encountering him over the past couple of days, she had already guessed as much.

But aside from that bar, no other company would consider hiring her.

She looked fearful, uncertain about what to do, but knew she had to grit her teeth and continue.

At that moment, Christopher pulled out his phone and browsed to Lewis's family business's public account.

He suggested, "How about this, our company is currently recruiting; why don't you come work with us? It will keep you away from Leo Harrell, and you won't have to be scared at the bar."

This...

Sophia hesitated, the position advertised was indeed very tempting, but what worried her most was whether she could be up to the task.

She instinctively shook her head, typing on her phone.

—I couldn't possibly impose, plus I'm just a rookie in the work world, I don't understand anything, I'm afraid I won't do well.

If I don't perform well, wouldn't that be letting Christopher down?

Christopher reassured her, "It's alright, there are many positions available, you can choose one you like, even being my personal assistant, it's up to you."

He had made the offer so appealing, it seemed very enticing, but still...

Sophia remained indecisive.

Thinking of the insults she had suffered at the bar the night before, as well as Leo Harrell's icy attitude toward her, and Arthur's medical bills at the hospital.

With all these issues piling up, she truly had no ground to refuse.

After a moment of contemplation, she bit her lip and nodded.
