"It doesn't concern you. I'm fine." He'd barely spoken to either of these men since their days as novices, but now he was being forced into a conversation every time he turned around. They just had to come to this exact spot so Lysander could wash his hands.

Just when the heat had begun to fade from Rowan's cheeks, it rushed back again when he thought about what Lysander might need to wash from his skin. He splayed his fingers across his face more in an effort to hide than to conceal his injuries.

"What happened to your face?" Nicasi frowned as he took in Rowan's bloodied appearance.

"Nothing. What happened to yours?" Rowan said from behind his hand.

"Do you see what I mean?" Nicasi folded his arms across his chest and turned toward Lysander. "All he does is provoke. I don't know why you insisted on checking on him. Especially after…"

"Check on me?" The heat drained from Rowan's face.

"Did you get an eyeful?" Nicasi's eyes narrowed.
