Kapitel 13: Tainted Bear (1)

Enzo awoke from his nap at 7:30 pm.

His headgear would be ready again to use in just 30 minutes.

His first task was to wake up Ivan.

Enzo got off his bed, left his room, and went to the door across the hallway.

He didn't even bother knocking as he knew that wouldn't wake up his roommate in the slightest.

Enzo opened the door without a care in the world how loud it was, and walked over to Ivan's bed in the middle of the room.

Slap!

"I'm up!"

"Hey, I'm actually surprised that it worked so well." Enzo said.

Ivan gave him a blank stare while rubbing his sore cheek.

Enzo chuckled in amusement and turned around to go back to his room.

He then pulled out his phone and spent the rest of his time browsing the forums.

What he read made him feel content.

It was almost the complete opposite of what he saw earlier while he was still in the game.

Many of the better players came out and bashed the players who were complaining for doing so.

Enzo and Pepper weren't the only ones who were smart enough to get used to their weapons first after all.

The players who did the same as them took to the forums to bash the players who were idiotic enough to just blindly charge into the forest expecting to be able to fight monsters.

Enzo even found a post from Julia Green, the CEO of Extant Company!

It wasn't hard to find as it was close to the top, but the actual message made him laugh very loudly.

[Julia Green:

Do not blame Extant Company for your ignorance. We will NOT be lowering the difficulty of the fights. You cannot expect to be able to proficiently use a sword in a game with 95% realism when all you do is sit on the couch all day in real life. And, in fact, this is just the tutorial, the fights will be much much harder once you leave the tutorial area. LOL.]

Her post was very blunt and even a little bit harsh, but it was funny nonetheless.

The comments replying to her post were of mixed opinions.

There were still many people complaining, but there were just as many people who realized their errors and now thought her post was funny.

There were also some other popular posts Enzo came across.

One of them talked about the realistic NPCs in the game. Many people said they wouldn't be able to tell NPCs and Players apart if not for their names being more realistic.

Another post spoke about how to best get quests with NPCs.

A player found phrases such as, "Do you need any help with anything?" or, "Is there something I can do for you?", tend to work best when probing an NPC for a new quest.

Enzo decided to keep that in mind for when he and Pepper return to the city.

Beep!

A noise came from the headgear to let him know that it was finished with the charging process.

Enzo unplugged it and went back to his bed to log in.

He slid the headgear on and pressed the button by his right side ear just like last time and the face mask closed itself.

This time the headgear didn't have to set itself up, so it directly loaded Enzo into the game.

His eyes drooped until they were closed. As soon as they shut, they opened back up quickly.

Enzo was standing in front of the gates, and a few feet away from the forest.

Pepper was already logged in and watching his body appear in front of her.

There were players logging in all around them at the same time as well.

The silver headgear allowed the players to play for 2 more hours, but the charging times of the silver and bronze models matched up, so many players were all on the same schedule.

"Ready to go?" Enzo asked.

"Yup." Pepper said back.

They immediately moved into the forest.

"Let's go deeper this time." Enzo suggested.

He wanted to fight stronger monsters and test their strength.

Pepper nodded her head in agreement.

They soon started running through the forest to get ahead of the other players.

They were some of the first to enter the forest and they didn't want to lose that advantage.

They also didn't want to have to waste 30 minutes of travel in low level areas just to find a good hunting spot this time.

They ran for almost 20 minutes to reach the higher leveled areas of the forest and were able to lose most of the players as they couldn't fight monsters this strong just yet.

"I see the tracks of two beasts, they might be big if their paws are an indicator." Pepper informed him.

"Okay."

They started tracking the beasts and soon found what they were looking for.

"This one might be difficult." Enzo whispered to Pepper from behind a tree.

[Tainted Bear]

[Level 4]

[HP: 100/100]

The problem wasn't just that the beast was a level above them and had a high health point stat, but that there were two of them.

This would be the first time that Enzo and Pepper tried to take down a level 4 monster by themselves, not counting the rabbit Enzo killed.

The rabbit was not only taken by surprise, but was also just a relatively easy beast to kill in the first place.

Still, they decided to go for it.

The only way to level up at a fast pace was to risk dying in this game.

Otherwise you would only get a measly 10 experience points per kill.

10 experience points might sound like a good deal for now, but they understood they would need much more experience to level up later on at the rate it was going now.

At level 1 it only takes 100 experience to level up, but just 2 levels later and it takes 600 experience points.
