Kapitel 46: The Fairy Deal

The fairy, Ivy, had been telling us the story of how her island made it to the shore of our forest after leaving the Tonaro Kingdom for not keeping their word.

At that point, I was feeling bad, since everything she described was what we did to her just a day before. Although to be fair, we didn't know she was here, or we would have asked for permission, and we definitely wouldn't have taken it all.

"You know, if you had said something to Vespera-... I mean, the spider lady, she wouldn't have taken any crops. At most, she would have just come back and told me what the deal was…"

"H-How was I supposed to know that? When a fairy sees a legendary beast called 'The Queen Demon Spider' we don't really feel like we should approach them and make friendly conversation!"

"Right, you got a point… Sorry about that…" I said with genuine remorse.

"I-it's okay! At least you are apologetic, and as a fairy, I can tell you didn't have bad intentions. All is forgiven!"

I was feeling a bit more relieved now that Ivy was being more friendly with us, and to show her how sorry we were, I opened my void pocket and took out some of the chocolate bars and chocolate-covered fruits that we had made the day before.

I decided to save some of them just in case, and it ended up being a great idea.

The fairy stared at the hardened chocolate bar in front of her, which was about the same size as her entire body, and took a small bite from one of its corners, making the fairy open her eyes with a surprised expression, her wings fully perked up, and the glittering dust that came from her body increasing in magnitude.

"Ish shooo gooood" said the fairy with a mouthful of chocolate.

"Heh, try these out too!"

Ivy approached the chocolate-covered fruits with enthusiasm, starting with the bananas, then the strawberries, and lastly the pineapple.

"Mhm, mhm. I shee the shocolatier title fitsh you guysh really well." said Ivy with her cheeks looking like they were about to burst with chocolate, and a big smile on her face.

"I'm glad you like it. It was all thanks to the product we got from here. I could give you a bit more as an apology if you want…"

The fairy stopped stuffing her mouth with strawberries for a moment, hovered towards my face, and made straight eye contact with me for a few seconds. "I told you I forgive you already… But how about we do a trade!?"

"Sure, if you are willing…"

The fairy had truly forgiven us for taking all of her crops, even when they had grown all back, it still didn't feel right with me. However, it seemed that Ivy really enjoyed the chocolate we made from her beans as she kept comparing it to the one that the Tonaro Kingdom used to make.

In the end, Ivy wanted snacks in return for her crops which was the best outcome we could hope for since End Town didn't produce a single gem or precious rocks that we could trade.

A few minutes later, Vespera returned and the poor fairy hid behind me as I explained to her the events that had transpired while she was gone. She simply laughed it off and introduced herself to Ivy, since they would be working together from now on, I asked them to get along.

We filled up a few more crates with fruits and choco-beans and said our farewells to Ivy, letting her know that we would come to visit some other time. However, halfway through the forest, we realized that Ivy had been following us the entire time.

She wanted to come with us, saying that her curiosity got the better of her and now she wanted to see what kind of town we lived in. Of course, I didn't mind, but I was a little concerned about leaving her island completely alone.

Ivy reassured me that she had left spirits protecting her island and bragged about their strength, saying that only legendary beasts or diamond adventurers had a chance against them. While the little fairy didn't sound threatening at all, I had seen one of her spirit beasts up close, and they were truly strong and terrifying, so I believed her.

__________

When we returned to town, I told the villagers the truth about the island and introduced them to Ivy, who started showering her with gifts and questions about fairies. After telling everyone to treat her nicely, I went home to rest while the princess showed Ivy around.

While everyone hung out, I went up to my room and rummaged through my drawers until I found the sage's book that I had gotten at the capital. Ever since we arrived in town, I hadn't had the time to fully read it and now that the house felt somewhat peaceful, I laid in bed and began reading Kyoko's magic studies on "day and night magic."

Kyoko had been a woman sent to this world in a body without family. However, contrary to my experience, she appeared close to a small town instead of in the middle of a dangerous forest.

In that town, she worked for craftsmen and blacksmiths until she was of age to register as an adventurer. Throughout her life, she traveled across the world, completing requests from the adventurers guild and helping people in need.

Her magic power was much higher than the average person, and just like me, she also hid the truth of her powers behind a censoring spell to block her information.

As I kept reading, I found out that Kyoko's main goal was to rid the world of the devils that invaded it. She described them as cunning creatures that could control the landscape and destroy entire cities. They controlled humans into sowing chaos and managed hordes of monsters to attack cities.

It was during that time that she came up with this new type of magic. One that could only be used depending on the time of the day.

When it came to daytime magic, she explained how the sun's rays and clouds played a big part in the spells, followed by a list of "day spells" that she came up with. It was a long list and each spell had accurate descriptions of its effects.

The ones that caught my eye right off the bat were called "Sungod Beam" and "Sunny Aura". The beam attack was described as the most powerful day spell and it worked by creating a giant magnifying lens while gathering all of the sun rays around and concentrating it into the glass, creating a massive beam of light that could vaporize almost anything.

The "sunny aura" focused on concentrating the energy from the sun's rays around the body, increasing one's physical attacks and speed. During all my time here, I had thought about different spells to boost my body strength and speed, and while I did come up with a few ideas using different elements, it never even crossed my mind to use the energy from the sun.

In the night section, she explained that most spells worked using the energy from the moon and the stars, although I couldn't really understand it at first.

(The energy from the stars?) I thought, completely confused as to what that even meant. Using the sun's energy made sense because I could see it and feel it in the environment. However, while the stars are clearly visible in the sky, it's not like I could feel any energy coming from them.

So I kept reading, searching for a better explanation. While there wasn't any more useful information about "feeling the energy from the stars," I reached the list of night spells, which was equally as long as the day one, and looked for more clues in their descriptions.

One of the spells was called "Star Reach", and it was described as grabbing a star from the sky and shooting it at your opponent. ("Huh!?")

Right as I was about to bang my head against the wall to try to understand Kyoko's train of thought, I heard the rest of the gang entering the house, so I quickly put the book back in my drawers and went outside to greet them and help them prepare dinner.

Later that night while everyone was sleeping, I decided to sneak out of the house into the forest to test some of the night magic. Of course, Vespera was awake and her curiosity was something that couldn't easily be swayed, so she accompanied me.

While in the forest, Vespera asked me what exactly I wanted to try and I ended up telling her all about the book and the author. I thought she would be somewhat uninterested in the topic, but she actually seemed to be quite into it, saying she wanted to learn too.

At that moment, I raised my arm up and stared at a single star above me, thinking about the words that Kyoko had written in her book. "Grab it…" I muttered as I closed my fist with the star in the background, creating a small and inoffensive white spark in my closed hand.

"Now, shoot!" I yelled as I threw the energy that had accumulated in my hand like a baseball into a massive tree in front of me. However, the power and speed that came from the projectile were completely unexpected, making the star go through several trees that stumbled down one by one before the star's energy dissipated from the air.

Both Vespera and I stayed silent with bewildered expressions as we saw the aftermath of the spell. A straight trail on the ground that not only raised the rocks around it, but it took down every single tree across its path.

(M-maybe I threw it too hard…?)
