Kapitel 98: Chapter 98: Cahir's Last Stand

A sorcerer tried to run towards the portal but did not anticipate the sudden flash of white light that split him in two.

Lann raised his hand and formed a sign towards the remaining mages.

"We give up!" One of the mages shouted in horror.

Lann did not care about the opponent's surrender. A great flame engulfed them again, and the yellow barrier struggled to hold firm in the midst of the fire.

Lann looked towards the portal and was wondering if he should try to use the silver sword to split the portal and prevent any more accidents. Unexpectedly, the portal turned into a wave of pure magic and disappeared.

Perhaps Fringilla on the other side saw that no mage had escaped for a long time, and knew that something must have happened, so she decisively canceled the portal to prevent Lann from catching up.

Lann looked at the battlefield. Cintra's soldiers had cooperated with Skellige to surround Nilfgaard. Coordination was excellent from the beginning. It seemed like he didn't have to worry about that front.

Lann used Aard Sign to disperse the flames in front of him and put on Quen Sign as insurance. He advanced and cut the mages' protective shields with a sword.

The remaining three mages were paralyzed with fear, lying on the ground, stuttering in an attempt to cast magical spells, but their trembling words produced no real magic, and their magical auras fluctuated without forming anything concrete.

Lann stopped his steps and asked: "Why didn't they open the portal and escape?"

One of the mages began to cry. "We didn't know..."

"I understand." Lann nodded. Then, he suddenly stepped forward and decapitated one of the mages with a single blow.

In Lann's witcher senses, the wizard's magical aura slowly faded, entangled with the same red mist as on the lion-headed silver sword, before disappearing completely.

"Ah!" The remaining mages let out a cry that could be mistaken for that of a maiden.

Lann looked at them indifferently and asked: "Do you have dimeritium handcuffs?"

One of the mages nodded frantically and hurriedly took out a box from his backpack. Inside was a pair of dark blue handcuffs.

When the mage's skin touched the cuffs, clear veins were revealed and visible from the point of contact. His magical aura vanished instantly, leaving him weaker than an ordinary person.

Lann pointed to the other mage. "Put them on him too."

The magician with the handcuffs explained in a low voice: "We only have one pair of handcuffs..."

Lann stared blankly at him, then stabbed the other mage's leg with his sword, pinning him to the ground. His action caused the mage to scream in pain before fainting.

The blade of the sword containing dimeritium pierced the mage's flesh, preventing his connection with the chaotic energy.

Lann walked towards the direction of the army battle without looking back: "If he dies, you will die too."

The sorcerer who was awake hurriedly tore his robes and used the first aid methods he had learned to stop the bleeding on his companion's bloody thigh.

Meanwhile, on the other side, the Nilfgaardian soldiers were reduced to a few dozen. Some tried to surrender, but Cintra's forces had no interest in taking prisoners. Now they only had to fight until the end.

"Stop everything!" Lann roared. "He is mine!"

Cahir, protected by his guards, suddenly raised his head.

The people surrounding the Nilfgaardian soldiers made way for the angry lion. They looked at the resurrected Earl with complicated eyes. Their minds were filled with the image of him slaughtering the Nilfgaardian soldiers like a god of war.

A Nilfgaardian soldier who was about to collapse drew his sword and rushed forward. Lann, with his incredible reaction speed, grabbed the opponent's sword-wielding hand, while he forcefully hit the soldier's inner elbow with his other hand, turning the blade of the sword so that the opponent cut his own neck.

"I am the Count of Nilfgaard, Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach! Charge with me!" Cahir, aware of his desperate situation, shouted before leading the charge.

Lann lowered his head to avoid the opponent's slash, raised his hand and used the Aard Sign to shatter the armor, causing Cahir to be thrown into the air spitting blood.

As the remaining soldiers rushed towards him, Lann glided towards them, combining the Aard Sign, Igni Sign, and Whirl ability, turning them into lost souls under his sword in a matter of seconds.

The Skellige people who had never seen Lann show his prowess screamed in surprise, and their eyes widened every time Lann killed someone.

Ace and House seemed to understand Lann's intention. They emerged from the crowd, picked up Cahir, whom Lann had knocked down, and twisted one arm each, forcing him to kneel in front of Lann.

"Cahir of Nilfgaard!" Lan shouted. "Do you recognize this sword?"

Lann's hand flashed, and the lion-headed silver sword was held in his hand. To his witcher senses, apart from Swade, the most intense red mist was the one that enveloped the man in front of him.

Cahir raised his bloody head and saw the sword. Then he lowered his head, disheartened, and said: "That was a respectable warrior... If it weren't for the sorcerer's help, he wouldn't have killed him so easily."

"Just a sorcerer?" Lann asked almost in a whisper.

Cahir nodded barely perceptibly.

"Alright, then you're last." Lann's deep voice seemed to be roaring in his throat. He stood beside the opponent and raised his hands high above his head.

Cahir suddenly raised his head, and he asked uneasily and eagerly: "I am the Count of Nilfgaard, Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach. Who is the person who kills me now?"

He stared at Lann, hoping to hear Lann pronounce a name that was worthy of the aristocracy.

Lann roared like a lion: "Swade!"

The sword flashed in the air, the head rolled, and blood splattered.

Lann wiped the blood on Cahir's cloak, then put the Silver Sword back into the storage space.

The system notification sound rang.

Lann himself had forgotten how many Nilfgaardians he had chased and killed along the way, and now he was actually upgraded.

He turned around and looked at the soldiers who were looking at him in amazement. On their faces, an excited emotion replaced the despair of having lost their country, for the first time they glimpsed hope.

Some people in the crowd were eager to try.

"The lion, the lion of Cintra." Someone in the crowd suddenly murmured softly.

The crowd was slightly commotion, and finally someone shouted loudly: "Lion! The Lion of Cintra!"

The warriors pounded their armor with their fists, stabbed the ground with their spears, struck the shields with their swords, making as much noise as possible, offering their most sincere and devoted cries to this man in front of them.

"Lion! Lion! Lion!"

"The Lion of Cintra!!!"

The system notification sound rang again.

Amidst the shouts of the crowd, a familiar figure broke through.

Familiar footsteps, familiar fragrance, a familiar hug that made him take two steps back, and a familiar cry. "Wuuu… Lann, Lann, Lann… Wuuu…"

...

Lann was riding on the horse with Ciri in his arms.

The roadblocks created by the mages were quickly cleared by more than a thousand people. Lann talked with his retainers and comrades one by one, accepted their salutes, and then gave a simple speech to the soldiers present to encourage morale.

After temporarily dealing with the pursuing Nilfgaardians, although the group was full of confidence and high morale, most of the Nilfgaardian army was still in Cintra territory, so the group did not dare to stay long and continued to rush north.

On this, Crach had a different opinion. "You should come with me to Skellige, Lann, along with Ciri. We are a family." Crach warned solemnly. Ciri often went to the Skellige Islands on vacation as a child, and young Lann often went there to accompany her. Although the relationship between Skellige and Lann is not as close as that of Ciri, they are still family after all.

Faced with the crisis of the kingdom, both the Clan an Craite of Crach as well as the Clan Tuirseach of Eist would offer help without any political consideration, just because they were family.

However, Lann politely declined: "We will really need Skellige's help, Crach. But not this way."

"If we leave now, Cintra will fall immediately. Nilfgaard is fighting on multiple fronts, they took us by surprise by concentrating so many people in such a short time."

"But if they want to occupy all of Cintra, they will have to divide their forces even more, it will be a long war. Only Ciri and I can unite a divided Cintra and keep alive the last spark of hope in Cintra."

Lann spoke seriously: "If we leave now, we would be betraying my aunt and Cintra."
