Kapitel 37: Two Leaders
"Are we going to stay behind the fence?" Harper asked as he saw the two zombies approaching them. Although they had rotten flesh and skin, they seemed to be muscular or sturdier than the previous zombies they killed.
Shane considered for a moment as he looked at their frail obstacles and fence… After some hesitation, he decided to approach the zombies instead.
"Let's go!"
Shane, Harper, and Anna charged at the two Crawler Leader Zombies.
Although Shane didn't have great leadership ability, he knew they had to work together to defeat the two zombies. With that in mind, he gave simple instructions to his two companions before engaging the zombies.
Shane dashed forward and swung his hatchet at the first Crawler Leader, aiming for its head…
However, to his surprise, the Crawler Leader Zombie dodged the attack by arching its body and at the same time, it grabbed Shane's right foot, trying to bite it!
Shane kicked the zombie in the face, making it let go.
Thanks to his Tier 3 Survivor Shoes, his kick was quite solid, and he was able to peel off some of its skin in the process.
From this momentum that he gained, Shane slashed his hatchet again! This time, he was able to hit the zombie's shoulder.
Graargh!
The zombie roared in pain and anger, before it lunged at Shane with its teeth.
At the same time, Harper threw his spear at the second Crawler Leader, hoping to pierce its heart. Although it may not kill the zombie immediately, it was a lot easier to hit its body than its head.
He was hoping that this attack could stop its advance.
However, similar to the zombie that Shane was dealing with, it was able to think and not just mindlessly attack its prey.
It saw the spear coming and rolled to the side, avoiding the hit!
"What? There's a zombie like this?!" Anna was shocked as she realized that they were dealing with sentient zombies. She had never encountered these types of zombies before!
Thud!
As the spear stuck on the ground, and Harper ran to retrieve it.
The zombie chased after him, crawling faster than Harper expected! The zombie reached Harper and clawed at his leg, drawing blood. Harper felt a sharp pain and stumbled, dropping his spear.
The zombie grabbed the spear and snapped it in half, rendering it useless.
Graargh!
The growled at Harper as if to tell that it was his end! Luckily, he still has pickaxe with him as he changed his weapon!
In the meantime, Anna noticed that Shane and the other Crawler Zombie were getting close to her… She noticed that the zombie had its right arm frozen by Shane's magic weapon, and part of its left should had similar situation.
Without hesitation, she stepped forward and hit the Crawler Leader with her nail bat, trying to help Shane! Since it was already injured, she believed that she could deal a killing blow to the zombie.
If they killed one of the zombies faster, they could easily surround and kill the remaining one!
Unfortunately, her strike wasn't enough!
The zombie was barely injured as it turned its attention to Anna and swiped at her with its arm. Obviously, the nail bat didn't do much damage, perhaps because of Anna's weak physical strength!
Bam!
Anna blocked the attack with her bat, but the force was too strong and she fell back.
"Y-you…"
The zombie crawled over her and opened its mouth, ready to bite her head.
"Get away!" Anna screamed and held her bat in front of her, hoping to fend off the zombie.
Lucky, Anna's dog, barked and ran to her rescue. He jumped on the Crawler Leader and bit its ear, distracting it.
This also made it difficult for Shane to use his hatchet…
At the very least, the zombie let go of Anna and tried to shake off Lucky, but the dog held on!
Anna got up and swung her bat again, hitting the zombie's skull! This time, she was filled with energy!
Bam! Bam! Bam!
After over five strikes, the zombie groaned and collapsed, its brain damaged!

Seeing Crawler Leader was down, Shane ran to help Harper.
As he noticed that Harper was in danger, he threw his hatchet and activated its Ice Effect at the same time!
Thud!
This was the third time he used the hatchet's effect, but it was worth it! The second Crawler Leader was hit on its right shoulder, freezing it momentarily!
Shane then picked up the broken spear and threw it at the zombie, hitting its back!
Thud!
The zombie shrieked and turned to face Shane, ignoring Harper.
'So tough?!'
Shane then took out his revolver and shot the zombie in the eye, blinding it and injuring its brain!
'Still alive?!'
He should've used the revolver's item effect! He truly underestimated its resilience!
The zombie howled and charged at Shane blindly, its arms outstretched.
It was able to use its arms to push on the ground and lunge at him!
As Shane was about to use his revolver once again, Harper was already behind the zombie!
He already got up and grabbed his pickaxe! As soon as the zombie was about to reach Shane, Harper swung his pickaxe at its neck, severing its spine!
Bam!
The zombie fell to the ground, motionless.

Shane, Harper, and Anna breathed a sigh of relief after confirming its death.
They had defeated the two Crawler Leader Zombies! It was time for Shane to loot them!
