Kapitel 29: Chapter 27 - 1943

POV:Baldur

City of the God of Light, Royal Castle, Genosha.

1943.

From the window of my room, I gaze down at my city below, filled with contentment at the progress we've made. Many years have passed since my first journey to Wakanda. It's now 1943, and the Second World War has been raging for some time, though we have not participated, of course.

After the coronation, Amora and I took a vacation to a group of islands—the Hawaiian Islands. We stayed there for almost a year, and our relationship grew closer and stronger over the years.

The outside world is aware of our island, unlike Wakanda, which masquerades as a small village in Africa. We didn't have the opportunity to adopt such a disguise.

Many years ago, the Spaniards "discovered" us. After several years without visitors, the new generations did not defend against invaders as their parents did, and the Spaniards managed to reach the center of the island. Upon seeing our city, the fools thought our houses and streets were made of pure gold and attempted to conquer us.

I don't need to say what the result was, but some of them managed to escape and return home with tales of an incredible city of gold in the middle of the ocean. After that, it was quite a nuisance. The Spaniards, pirates, and even the French tried to conquer the island. Our defense worked this time—everyone was destroyed. Unfortunately, this didn't decrease their attacks; it only made them more eager. They must have thought that so much defense must have a reason.

After a while and fed up with so much trouble, Amora took matters into her own hands. Using her new staff made from a branch of Yggdrasil, she cast a weather spell, causing the sea around the island to rage, fueling the spell with energy from the Ley lines. The storm would last forever, creating a natural defense against any ships.

Over time, everyone gave up. We became a legend. I wonder what those Spaniards would think of our city now. The small golden houses have now become towering skyscrapers, with only the royal castle surpassing them in size. Several transport spacecraft shuttle people from place to place. If we were once a city of gold, fools would think we are now the city of the gods.

Years ago, with the help of the dwarves, we finally finished the construction of my castle. The idea of the energy source that I had previously thought of was also successfully built. Now, all the island's energy is powered by an artificial sun located beneath the castle. The idea came from the experiment that created Doctor Octopus. Unlike him, I was much more careful, and with the help of my powers, it was relatively easy to stabilize the sun. Amora also created a powerful spell so that if the sun becomes unstable, it will be teleported into space.

The artificial sun could also be used as a "small" bomb by me in case of emergency. It will last for a thousand years and generates more than enough energy for the city, while also powering the energy shield around it, providing defense and camouflage for us.

The camouflage will be very useful when satellites are created. The defense shield can easily defend against nuclear attacks, making Wakanda and us the safest countries in the world.

My relationship with my only ally has improved greatly over the years. We have created a route for both peoples to travel freely between the two cities. Being a reclusive country is not easy. My island is like a vacation paradise for the Wakandans, and Wakanda is a safari for mine. After a while, some showed interest in staying permanently rather than just visiting.

I remained neutral in the rare political disputes of Wakanda. The biggest problems are still caused by the Jabari tribe. As I mentioned to Bashenga before, it was a mistake to let them join Wakanda. I am still called upon for every coronation and important meeting. The people of Wakanda hold a certain reverence for me; their ancestors spoke of me as a god who helped end the war, so I have no problem with fools attempting to overthrow Genosha.

In truth, I don't have that problem on my island either. No matter how prosperous the kingdom, there will always be some greedy fool trying to gain more power. But as the years pass and each generation is born and another dies, I remain the same. This has created the idea that I am immortal in the new generations. Many of my people do not have a religion, but if they did, I would be their god.

The government of Genosha operates in an organized manner. I still hold supreme power, but I have appointed Sieg as my vice-king. He manages most of the kingdom's political affairs, with my authorization, of course.

The number of murders and robberies is almost zero, as the entire city is patrolled by police drones that attack and apprehend anyone committing an act of violence. The drones are controlled by an AI created by me, which also manages the castle's defenses and other basic services such as water and electricity.

Those who commit crimes and are captured are sent to a prison where they await trial. The identity of the criminals remains entirely anonymous. Not even the judge or the victim's lawyer knows their identity, preventing anyone with high influence from attempting to alter the law. If convicted, they will be sent to prison or executed, depending on their crime.

We also have no problem with hunger. My experience with vibranium, using it to increase food production, is working perfectly. We can produce tons of food four times faster than a normal plantation.

My personal strength hasn't grown much over the years. I spent most of my time studying runic magic and science. I successfully created my second rune, Othala, which means inheritance or inherited property. I created it not with the intention of increasing my own strength, but that of those close to me. That's why Sieg has lived for so long—I engraved Othala on the tubes I made in Nidavellir. The tubes can transform into weapons or objects.

I gave three of them to Sieg, Freyja, and Nordur. With these objects, I can share some of my powers, granting them my longevity, strength, and Asgardian regeneration. Freyja became my second general, commanding another half of my army. She had her tube transform into a sword, which, with my shared power, can increase the blade's temperature, allowing it to cut through anything.

The general also chose a sword. With him already being an Asgardian, he had another significant increase in all his abilities, like regeneration; he's now almost on par with Logan. As for Sieg, he received a ring that can fire beams of light, as it wouldn't make sense for him as a politician to walk around with a weapon.

The powers of the weapons are linked to mine, so the stronger I am, the more power I can offer to the weapons. I haven't yet chosen who to give the other three to; that's for the future.

My biggest problem is Balthakk. As I spent so much time not using his powers, he has grown impatient and is trying to consume me faster. It's truly painful. I still have time until the Korean War when Cain Marko will find the other gem. Until then, my plans will be complete.

"Sorry to interrupt, sir, but I have an urgent message."

Snapping me out of my thoughts, I hear the voice of my AI echoing through my room.

(T/N: AI? I know it's marvel but it's just 1943 TT)

"What message, Alice?"

"The message came from King Azzuri, sir. The Jabari tribe has joined forces with a secret Nazi organization called HYDRA. King Azzuri seeks your guidance."

(As I thought, showing mercy to your enemies is like giving them a chance to grow stronger for the next attack.)

"Respond to the message, tell them I'm on my way."

"Yes, sir. Should I prepare the ship?"

"No, Sleipnir is faster."

With the strength of my country, dealing with HYDRA would be easy, but the problem is that I can't do it quietly.

I leave my room heading towards Sleipnir's stable, passing by several soldiers wearing full silver armor in attention, protecting the palace.

"Alice, tell Amora that I'll be away for a while, assure her that it's not a big problem."

"Yes, sir."

"Also, send me the intelligence that the War Dogs have on HYDRA."

The War Dogs are originally Wakanda's intelligence unit, more trained than any intelligence unit in the world. And now, with me assisting in their construction, their skills have grown even more. They only obey my orders and those of the Wakandan king.

I head to the stables and mount Sleipnir, wearing my light golden armor and holding my spear as always. More accessories are not necessary when you can cross the world in seconds.

"Let's go, my friend, we have to visit my friend."

Excited, Sleipnir starts running towards Wakanda.

POV: Third person.

Indian Ocean, near Genosha, Nazi Vessel.

1943.

A large ship sails in total silence on the dark waters of the ocean. At the bow of the ship, a man in a black SS uniform looks out at the horizon. (T/N: SS is the schutzstaffel)

"So, this is the legendary golden island."

In front of him, an island could be seen even in the darkness, surrounded by turbulent waters swirling in fury.

"Sir, I don't understand why we have to chase after ancient myths. I don't believe there could be an entire city made of gold."

One of the soldiers behind the leader speaks up, his friend beside him looks at their leader with fear and reverence. It took a lot of courage for him to speak those words.

"Every legend has some truth to it. Our Fuhrer has been very interested in mystical objects and legends lately. And there's no place more mysterious than this island. Our mission is to confirm whether the legend is real or not, men."

"Yes, sir!"

"Yes, sir!"

The two young men respond.

"At ease."

The two officers leave, leaving their leader alone.

"And even if the legend is real, this wealth can only belong to us, HYDRA!"

The SS officer speaks softly with a joyful smile on his face, unaware that his actions would awaken a beast that would lead to the premature end of World War II.
