Kapitel 21: deal with the devil

(third person)

A man wandered down the desolate street, his jacket tightly fitting and his hood hiding his features. With each step, his nerves seemed to increase more and more.

"Where are you, Mia?" he muttered, his voice tight with frustration. He'd ventured into this town on a desperate mission.

A sudden chill crept down his spine, causing him to whirl around. But there was nobody there. He let out a relieved sigh and turned back, only to be met with a grotesque grin. Before he could react, darkness enveloped him as a swift blow sent him tumbling into unconsciousness.

Noah watched the unconscious man with wary eyes and his senses on high alert. There was something peculiar about him, an aura of danger mixed with a strange aura that Noah couldn't identify. As his senses sharpened with each level he rose, Noah had become adept at distinguishing friends from foes.

"Strange... he gives off a dangerous vibe. A clever move quickly knocks him out. A normal human wouldn't set off these alarms. Could he be a mutant...?" Noah mused quietly as he carried the man over his shoulder and then quickly ran back to his cabin.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(POV: Oliver miller)

My head throbbed as if it were on fire. What the hell hit me? I felt dizzy, disoriented. Where am I? Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked around. It looked like a small house, maybe a cabin?

I scanned the room and saw a table with some wooden chairs. The dim light from a small bulb cast shadows on the wooden walls. Suddenly, I heard a noise. Turning to my left, I saw the door open, and the guy who had knocked me out walked in.

"Oh! You woke up faster than I thought," said the hooded guy, his smile visible through the shadows. His mouth looked like it had been cut with a knife, giving him a grotesque appearance.

He grabbed a chair and placed it in front of me. I tried to move, but I realized I was tied up. Shit.

He looked at me and asked, "Hey, who are you...? You're not from here, right?" I hesitated to answer.

He sighed and said, "Did you come to...save someone...?" My heart raced. Shit, had he figured me out already?

The guy in front of me smiled wider and said, "Mia...?"

I gritted my teeth. That bastard...he's probably with them...

"Ha...are you looking for your sister...?" he continued. I just glared at him and spat out, "Fuck you..."

He started laughing and said, "Ha...well, I think I got this right...she's a mutant, isn't she?"

My heart raced even more. Shit!

My sister and I are mutants, and we've been connected since we were kids. But almost a year ago, she disappeared. For a long time, I couldn't find her, but a few days ago, she sent me a psychic message. She told me where she was, just the name of the town. I had been searching for so long, but I finally found it. I had to dig through so much information. Shit.

"No..." I said curtly to the guy in front of me. Damn it, if only I could use my powers right now...

The guy smiled and said, "Ha...well, I guess I won't give you information about where the scientist is..."

Scientist!?!?!

I gritted my teeth. I didn't trust this bastard; he gave me a bad feeling.

"Well...how about a deal...? You help me, and I'll help you...easy, right?" said the guy with the cut face.

"What? Are you kidding me? I don't know you. You look like a fucking crazy person, someone who would kill me from behind," I said with frustration. Making a deal with someone like him seemed like making a deal with the devil.

"Ha...you don't understand me, do you?" The guy got up and walked toward me. He took off his hood, and I made a disgusted face. His face was abnormally white, his smile grotesque, and he had strange eyes. He looked like a psychopath.

"It's not a question; it's an order. I help you, and you help me. I have valuable information, and I want to get something interesting," said the guy in front of me with a big smile.

"Even if there is no trust, you have to accept to achieve important things... don't you think?" the guy said with a smile.

I gritted my teeth and thought about the possibilities. This guy seemed like a crazy psychopathic murderer. I was afraid he would do something to my sister.

"How about it... do you want to accept? I won't do anything to you until we achieve our goal. I don't care what happens when we finish the deal. If you want, when we're done, you can try to kill me. I just want to get something interesting..." said the guy in front of me.

My sister needs me. It seems I will have to make a deal with the devil to save her.

"Okay... I accept..." I said with a sharp voice. I had a bad feeling, but I had to save my sister from the clutches of those bastards.

The man said, "Great! Wait until I untie you." The guy stood behind me and took off the rope. I felt my hands free. I stood up and looked at him.

"Well... what's the information?" I said urgently.

"Well... there is a place in the forest that has a secret hatch. It looks like we can get in there... but... I need you to help me with something..." the guy said with a smile.

"What thing?" I asked carefully. This guy was dangerous.

"Hmmm... I need you to be in town and watch some houses. I heard there is a list of compatible people for something. They probably want to use your sister to create something..." the guy said with a grotesque smile. Create something with my sister?

"By the way, my name is Jeff," said the guy in front of me. So Jeff... what a... normal name.

///

I was on top of a building at night, looking at a house Jeff told me to watch. It seemed like a normal house, a family of four: two parents and two children. Jeff had given me extra information: the oldest was a 16-year-old girl, and the youngest was a 12-year-old boy.

"Damn, is this guy a stalker or what?" I mumbled, taken aback by the detailed information Jeff had about the family. How crazy.

I spent about two hours watching the house. Nothing happened. Occasionally, I saw the lights in a window turn on, but after a while, they went off. Everything seemed very normal. Nothing strange. Did that bastard lie to me?

"Did you find something?" A voice behind me made me jump. I quickly turned around, and there was Jeff. I backed away a few meters, startled. Damn it, how did he appear there? I didn't notice anything.

"What the fuck?" I said in surprise. Bastard, if he wanted to, he could have killed me.

"Did you find something or not?" Jeff asked.

"Nothing, everything is normal... but how do you know something could happen in that house?"

"I heard something interesting. Also, there is a greater probability that people between 15 and 16 years old are more compatible with something. I just wanted more help to know if someone is going to kidnap them or something like that. Plus, we can see if they take them to their hideout," Jeff said with a big smile.

"Well, keep watching. There's a possibility something will happen today, though it might be low. I'll go check on other families," Jeff said as he walked towards the ledge and jumped down. I sighed and decided to keep an even closer watch.

"Between 15 or 16 years old...?" I murmured with intrigue. More compatibility?

I shook my head and decided to focus.

///

I watched the night, but suddenly I saw something suspicious: a black car. The car parked near the house, and a person in a dark suit and a gas mask got out. What the hell?

I watched as he walked slowly toward the house. He took out something small from his pocket that I couldn't see clearly because of the distance. It seemed like he put it on the door, and the door opened like it was nothing. Shit.

I quickly took out my phone and called Jeff.

"Yeah...?" I heard his voice and quickly told him, "Come quickly, I'm still at the house from before. It seems like they came here!"

The call hung up, and a few seconds later, I saw how Jeff arrived quickly. He looked at the house and smiled.

"Well... they probably have a plan for her daughter... she's 16, she probably has more compatibility because she's young and has more potential," Jeff said with a small smile.

"But how the hell do you know that? It's possible that age doesn't matter," I said with some confusion.

"No, you don't understand. At the age of 16, it's like an empty shell, but a clean and new shell. The probabilities are better. In adulthood or in children, there are worse compatibility chances. Imagine a small shell; it can't be filled well, it doesn't work, and it breaks. In adulthood, it's like an old and dirty shell. In adolescence, it's a clean shell, ideal size, and well proportioned," Jeff explained.

"It's also an age that is often used in experiments...it's logical. Well, maybe I explain it in a strange way. It doesn't matter, let's keep looking," Jeff said with a smile. I looked at the house and saw how quiet it was. After a while, I saw the guy with the gas mask leaving with a 16-year-old girl who was either asleep or knocked out.

Suddenly, the guy took out a small black ball and threw it inside. Black gas started to spread through the house. The guy with the gas mask closed the door and took the girl away without any problems.

"Hmmm... that was quick. I thought there was going to be at least a little chaos, but it seems not," Jeff said with a disappointed face.

"Well, let's follow them," Jeff said. I looked at him and said, "But how? I can't run fast enough to catch a car."

Jeff smiled at me and grabbed my arm. Suddenly, I felt like I was flying. No, actually, Jeff was grabbing my arm and running towards the car, jumping between buildings. Shit, I'm going to throw up.

///

I vomited by a tree, feeling my stomach empty. I looked at the forest at night; it was very dark. We had followed the car here. It seems their real hiding place is in the forest.

"Are you going to follow me or not?" Jeff said next to me.

"Yes," I said with some annoyance, my arm still hurting.

When we arrived at the forest, we saw the car parked near the trees. We walked through the cold night and saw the guy with the gas mask in the distance, carrying the girl on his shoulder. She was still asleep. Did they put something in her to make her sleep so soundly? Probably.

We hid behind some trees and watched as the guy approached a place where a ground hatch opened by itself. The guy entered, and I felt something grab me by the arm and drag me. I watched in surprise as we arrived quickly, and Jeff put his hands on the gate to keep it from closing. Damn, what absurd strength.

"Let's wait a while. If we go in now, they might discover us," said Jeff.

We waited two minutes, and then Jeff forced the hatch open. We went in and saw some stairs leading down. This place looked underground. Hell.

"It seems that there are no cameras. Well, besides, this place does not seem very protected. Better," Jeff said as he began to go down the stairs. I followed him. There were lights on the walls to illuminate the place.

We walked further and came to a white hallway. It was empty, but the place seemed enormous.

"This place really seems huge... looks like it's going to take us a while to find your sister, huh?" Jeff said with a smile as he looked around with curiosity. I gritted my teeth, determined to save Mia.

We continued walking until we reached what looked like a sliding door. As we got closer, the door opened, revealing a guy chewing gum. He looked similar to the gas mask guy, wearing the same clothes but without the mask. The guy saw us and almost screamed, but Jeff moved quickly, grabbing him and putting a knife almost in his eye. Where the hell did Jeff get that knife from!?

Jeff looked at him and said, "Shhhh... if you scream, I will kill you in such a painful way that you will wish you had never been born. I never lie about that."

The guy got scared and shut his mouth. Jeff smiled and said, "Where is the girl?"

"In the laboratory. I just took her there; that was my job, nothing more..." the guy said fearfully. Jeff sighed.

He then grabbed the guy by the head and broke his neck. I was surprised at how casually he killed him, but I didn't feel sorry. These bastards kidnapped my sister.

"Well... this will do," Jeff said as he held up a completely black card with some gold symbols.

"This seems pretty useful," Jeff got up, and we continued walking.

"Is it a good idea to leave him there? What if someone sees him?" I asked, confused.

"No problem. There's nothing at the entrance, and I didn't hear any footsteps for 200 meters. Besides, it seems only the guy from before was in this area," Jeff said casually. 200 meters? Damn.

I was curious, but I didn't expect him to answer. Still, I asked anyway.

"What are you?" I asked, not trusting this guy.

"A genetically modified being. They trapped me as a child and used my body in various experiments, that's me," Jeff said casually, looking curiously at the card.

That was... surprisingly easy.

"Well, shut up and let's keep walking. I want to get to where the scientist is," Jeff said as he quickened his pace.

(third person)

Aiden held the syringe in his hand, his eyes fixed on the brown-haired girl seated at his table. She was Eva Turner, the person with the highest compatibility with the F gene. Aiden approached slowly and administered the syringe, the purple substance entering her veins. A sigh of relief escaped him.

"Take her to room 001!" Aiden instructed a guard dressed in black. Without hesitation, the guard swiftly escorted Eva away. There were no issues in seizing a person undergoing the F gene activation process.

After some time, Aiden monitored the camera feed from a white room. Eva Turner lay on the floor, her body convulsing. Aiden watched intently, hope rising within him. Moments later, Eva's convulsions ceased, and she slowly regained consciousness.

"Yes, yes!" Aiden exclaimed with jubilation. Finally, he had succeeded in creating the first mutant with the F gene.

"Finally... I did it," Aiden said, a smile spreading across his face.

But suddenly, something unexpected occurred. The girl began bleeding from her nose, collapsing to the ground.

"No... NOOO!!" Aiden's voice reverberated with anger as he unleashed his fury upon a nearby table, striking it repeatedly.

"HOLY SHIT!! I HAD IT!! I ALMOST HAD IT!!" Aiden's frustration echoed through his lab.

Unbeknownst to Aiden, Eva started to slowly levitate, the walls around her beginning to fracture. Then, a shockwave erupted.

Aiden was thrown to the ground, his gaze drawn to the camera feed. There she was, Eva, hovering with bleeding eyes. The first mutant with the F gene had been born, and she was powerful.
