Kapitel 4: Eina: Who Is This Guy?

Chapter 4 - Eina: Who Is This Guy?

Following the transport team, Bell walked into Orario.

The transport team entered Orario without a hitch, but Bell was held back.

"Stop."

As Bell was about to walk into Orario, a soldier standing guard with a spear stopped him. The guard was wearing thick armor, and the spear in his hand gleamed with a silver light. His aura made Bell's hairs stand on end.

Bell could sense the guard's strength. Despite having grown stronger during his journey, Bell still felt he couldn't resist the guard.

The guard took a closer look at Bell. The boy appeared shy, clearly a newcomer attracted by Orario's reputation.

"Newcomer?"

"Yes," Bell nodded honestly. Despite his rich internal thoughts, he had a bit of social anxiety and struggled with speaking.

Seeing Bell as a naive newcomer, the guard shook his head slightly, thinking this kid wouldn't last long in Orario. His intimidating aura subsided.

"Come on, you need to be tested to see if you have the 'falna,' the grace of the gods."

Bell was unaware of such a process before entering the city.

"This is to prevent lunatics from posing as newcomers to enter Orario," the guard explained, further confirming his belief that Bell wouldn't last long in this man-eating city.

"Okay."

Bell nodded, not refusing the test. He didn't know who these "lunatics" were, but it seemed right to test.

He noticed the slight pity in the guard's eyes but didn't understand why. He resolved to be more cautious in Orario.

The test wasn't very complicated. The guards took Bell to a stone house at the gate, which contained a translucent green gemstone, key to the test.

"Just put your hand on it. If it turns green, you're fine. If it turns red, there's a problem."

Bell quietly placed his hand on the gem.

He felt a warm current flow from his palm through his body and back out, after which the gemstone glowed green.

"No problem, you can go in."

With confirmation that Bell was fine, the guards let him pass.

Orario welcomed newcomers but didn't tolerate troublemakers.

The guard sighed, seeing the young and innocent Bell.

A child of this age was fearless, and the guard's pity grew. He couldn't help but offer some advice in a lowered voice.

"Go directly to the guild after entering the city. Don't trust others easily. This city isn't as beautiful as you might think."

Bell was startled and looked at the guard's sympathetic eyes.

Was he giving advice out of pity?

"Thank you."

Bell wasn't ungrateful. He could recognize kind words, so he whispered his thanks.

Lowering his profile to avoid drawing attention, he slowly walked into Orario.

The guard watched Bell's cautious steps and chuckled inwardly.

"This kid knows."

It was clear that reducing one's presence was the best way to hide. Orario only takes valuable people; the worthless weren't even worth counting.

The guard realized he had misjudged Bell and shook his head, no longer concerned.

"Those who know how to hide themselves have a chance to survive. This kid might last longer than I thought."

Once inside Orario, Bell observed his surroundings.

Vendors lined both sides of the road, selling mostly snacks, trinkets, and possibly enchanted pendants. The weapons and armor for sale seemed decent but not exceptional.

Bell didn't stop to browse. He knew his limited funds couldn't afford anything extravagant. He needed to save for future living expenses and couldn't waste money on uncertain purchases.

Bell continued directly toward the guild.

He didn't need to ask for directions; he just aimed for the towering Babel. The guild was located towards the western main street, so heading towards western side of Babel ensured he would find the guild.

Along the way, Bell felt many gazes and overheard conversations about him.

"Another rookie. Looks like he won't be worth much."

"Orario attracts all sorts of dreamers, but few newcomers make it. The capable ones quickly become famous."

"True, but getting famous here isn't easy."

"Every year, many newcomers enter Orario. How many do you think this city takes?"

"A newbie like him isn't even worth eating. He's just trash until he proves himself valuable."

Bell didn't mind these remarks. As an ordinary person in a city that valued strength, he knew the only way to survive and thrive was simple and pure.

Strength!

....

The Guild, which is the largest organization in Orario, controls the operation of the city itself. It manages adventurers, dungeons, and the trading of magic stones and drops.

This means all residents of Orario need to deal with the Guild, and new adventurers must register with the Guild upon their arrival.

As a newcomer, the most important thing is to register with the Guild as soon as possible, and then start looking for a Familia to join.

Of course, finding a Familia is not an easy task. As a rookie adventurer, this can be the most difficult decision.

However, it's not the rookie adventurers who choose the Familia that is difficult.

Anyone with sense knows to aim for the better Familias.

If there's an opportunity to join one, there's no need to worry about not being able to develop in the future.

The powerful Familias provide more resources than the smaller ones, so choosing the right Familia is crucial for new adventurers.

However, these powerful Familias never lack excellent newcomers. Therefore, to join these powerful Familias, one must demonstrate their abilities to be noticed.

So, when it comes to powerful Familias, it's not the rookie adventurers who choose but rather the Familias who select the talented ones.

For a rookie adventurer, getting into a great Familia depends on their innate talent.

For example, possessing special skills or inherent magic can make a difference.

These gifted adventurers are the first choice for the powerful Familias.

Ordinary adventurers without special talents shouldn't dream of joining a great Familia. Even joining a small Familia can be challenging.

Innate talent is crucial for rookie adventurers and determines eligibility to join a great Familia.

Bell doesn't lack the qualifications to enter a great Familia, but he doesn't want to.

Partly because of his character, and partly due to his goddess, Hestia.

Joining a great Familia means exposing one's abilities, which could attract unwanted attention in Orario. Bell prefers to avoid this until he has grown stronger.

So, when speaking to the Guild receptionist, Bell asked the question he needed to be answered.

"Excuse me, do all gods register with the Guild when they establish a Familia?"

The receptionist was a half-elf girl, wearing oval glasses, with a cute face that made one want to approach her. Her voice was gentle, likely a requirement for the job.

Through their brief conversation, Bell learned that the half-elf girl's name was Eina Tulle, the receptionist who assists the protagonist in the original story, which explained why she seemed familiar.

Eina's serious and responsible nature was evident.

"Yes. The Guild acts as a bridge between gods and adventurers. Each god registers with the Guild when establishing a Familia. The Guild may recommend certain adventurers to specific Familias, but these are only recommendations, not arrangements."

Eina's statement was gentle and euphemistic, showing why she was the ace receptionist.

"I understand. I also know that a rookie adventurer can't easily get into those great Familias, and I'm not going to trouble you with that. My intention is to find an ordinary Familia, preferably one without any members yet. Gods should not be so picky about an incompetent adventurer like me."

Bell's words were clear, and Eina realized she had misunderstood. She blushed slightly, surprised that the new adventurer was so self-aware.

It wasn't Eina's fault; many rookie adventurers had high hopes. Some aimed to join top Familias like the "Loki Familia" or "Freya Familia," thinking highly of themselves.

Eina often wanted to tell these adventurers not to be too self-righteous, as the Familias would judge based on ability.

Facing Bell, a self-aware adventurer, was a bit embarrassing for Eina.

"Sorry, I mistook you for that kind of adventurer."

"Miss Eina faces many challenges. Please don't take my words to heart. If you mind, could you help me find a suitable Familia?"

"Of course, please wait a moment."

Eina began searching for a suitable Familia. Bell's conditions were not demanding, but most Familias already had members.

"Well... Bell-kun, your conditions are modest, but most Familias already have members."

"Is that so?"

Bell thought briefly. He remembered that Hestia had been seeking members for a long time after arriving in Orario, and wondered if it was the right time.

Bell stayed silent, realizing that Hestia was the most suitable Familia for him, but she was still seeking members.

So Bell quickly made a decision.

"I won't join any Familia for now."

Bell thanked Eina.

"Miss Eina, I won't join a Familia for the time being. It's difficult under my conditions, and I have no money. So, could you keep an eye out for any new Familia?"

Seeing Bell's decision, Eina agreed. It was her job to help.

"I will. If a suitable Familia appears, I'll let you know, Bell-kun."

"Thank you very much."
