Kapitel 1: Chapter 1

The towering gates of Saint Lumina Academy loomed before Mu Lan, their golden engravings radiating an air of grandeur. Future heroes, prodigies, and noble scions passed through these gates every year, ready to claim their place in history. Mu Lan, however, stood among them like a stray cat in a lion's den.

With his pale complexion, silver-white hair, and sickly thin frame, he looked like someone who should be in a hospital, not an elite academy for warriors and mages. Yet, here he was—against all odds, accepted into the most prestigious institution of magic and combat in the entire continent.

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath, adjusting the strap of his bag. "I should've just stayed home."

If only that were an option.

A Few Hours Earlier

"Mu Lan, from the orphanage of Eastwood, please step forward!"

The admissions officer, a strict-looking woman with glasses, called his name. The grand auditorium of the academy was filled with thousands of students, eagerly awaiting their turn to be evaluated. Every year, Saint Lumina Academy assessed each new student's potential before officially assigning them their class rankings.

Mu Lan sighed and stepped onto the stage. He could feel countless eyes boring into him—some curious, some amused, and some outright dismissive.

"What kind of magic do you specialize in?" the admissions officer asked.

"Uh… I don't really specialize in anything," Mu Lan answered honestly.

A murmur spread through the crowd. Some students snickered. A noble-looking boy in the front row whispered something to his friend, and they both laughed.

The admissions officer frowned. "Then what fighting style do you practice?"

"I… don't really have one of those either."

Silence.

The woman stared at him, adjusting her glasses. "Then… why are you here?"

Mu Lan scratched his head. "Good question. I'd like to know that too."

Another wave of laughter erupted, but before the admissions officer could dismiss him, a magic crystal on the side suddenly glowed bright red.

Everyone's eyes widened.

"W-What's happening?"

"Why is the crystal reacting like that?"

The admissions officer turned to look at the Headmaster, who sat on an elevated throne-like chair at the back of the auditorium. Headmaster Reginald Graves, a man who had seen countless prodigies in his time, narrowed his eyes at Mu Lan.

"This student…" the Headmaster muttered. "He's hiding something."

Mu Lan: (Huh? No, I'm not?!)

Within seconds, the atmosphere changed. Students who were mocking him a moment ago were now staring at him with a mix of fear and awe.

Misunderstanding System Activated.

Mission: "Maintain Your Mysterious Persona"

Objective: Say nothing. Let the misunderstanding deepen.

Reward: +50 Fame Points

Mu Lan: "..."

Oh, for f—

The auditorium fell into a strange silence. Hundreds of students, instructors, and even nobles stared at Mu Lan, their expressions ranging from curiosity to disbelief.

The magic crystal, used to measure a student's potential, was still glowing bright red, an intensity it had never reached before.

Some students began whispering.

"That guy… he said he doesn't specialize in anything, but the crystal reacted to him?"

"Is he some hidden genius pretending to be weak?"

"Maybe he's from some secretive ancient lineage…?"

Mu Lan, meanwhile, was staring blankly at the floating System Window in front of him.

[Misunderstanding System]

Mission: "Maintain Your Mysterious Persona"

Objective: Say nothing. Let the misunderstanding deepen.

Reward: +50 Fame Points

He sighed internally. What kind of ridiculous system is this?

The admissions officer cleared her throat. "Mu Lan, do you… have any explanation for this reaction?"

Mu Lan: (I literally have no idea what's happening.)

But instead of saying that, he remembered the system's "objective."

So he stayed silent.

He simply closed his eyes, let out a slow sigh, and shook his head as if he couldn't be bothered to explain.

The misunderstanding deepened.

"Heh…" Someone from the instructor's seats let out a chuckle. "Interesting."

A man in a crimson robe, one of the academy's senior instructors, leaned forward. His name was Professor Alden, a well-respected battle mage. He stroked his beard thoughtfully.

"To suppress his own aura so well that even he himself is unaware of his latent power… A talent like that is exceedingly rare."

Mu Lan: (…Excuse me?)

The noble-looking boy from before, who had mocked him, now looked pale.

"He—He's some kind of sleeping monster, isn't he?"

Mu Lan: (No, I'm just a normal guy! I swear!)

But it was too late. The damage had been done.

Ding!

After the Evaluation

Somehow, Mu Lan passed the evaluation and was now officially a student of Saint Lumina Academy.

Not only that—he was assigned to Class A, the highest-ranking freshman class, reserved for only the most promising students.

As he walked out of the auditorium, other students parted like the Red Sea, whispering as he passed.

"That's him. The guy who fooled the crystal."

"I heard the Headmaster himself took an interest in him…"

"What if he's actually some hidden weapon of the kingdom?"

Mu Lan: (What kind of nonsense is this?!)

He had wanted to live a quiet, low-key life.

But the Misunderstanding System had other plans.

The dormitory of Saint Lumina Academy was split into different buildings, each catering to students of different ranks.

Since Mu Lan had been mistakenly placed into Class A, he was assigned to Aurum Hall, a dormitory reserved for the top-tier freshmen.

As he entered, he couldn't help but admire the sheer luxury of the place.

Marble floors polished so well that he could see his own confused reflection.

Gold-trimmed chandeliers casting a soft, elegant glow.

Spacious rooms with their own personal training areas.

Mu Lan: (Is this really a school? Or did I get sent to some noble's mansion by accident?)

A few students lounging in the common area turned to stare at him.

Some whispered. Some simply narrowed their eyes.

And then—

"Hoh? So you're the 'mysterious freshman' everyone's been talking about?"

A voice echoed through the hall.

Mu Lan turned to see a tall, broad-shouldered boy with short silver hair and piercing golden eyes. His uniform was slightly different from the others, marked with an emblem of a golden lion—the symbol of the Royal Knights' Successor Program.

A prodigy.

Someone important.

Name: Reinhardt von Aurelius

- Crown Prince of the Aurelius Empire

- Ranked No.1 among the freshmen

- Swordmaster-in-training

Reinhardt sized Mu Lan up, then smirked.

"You've been quite the talk of the academy."

Mu Lan: (Why?! I didn't do anything!)

But instead of panicking, he followed the system's rule—stay silent, deepen the misunderstanding.

So he simply gave a calm nod and walked past Reinhardt, heading toward his dorm room.

The entire hall fell silent.

Some students gaped.

"Did… did he just ignore the Crown Prince?"

"Even the nobles show respect to Reinhardt, but he didn't even flinch?"

"Unbelievable… just how powerful is he?"

Reinhardt's golden eyes gleamed with curiosity.

"Heh. Interesting."

Inside the Dorm Room

Mu Lan collapsed onto the luxurious bed and let out a deep sigh.

Ding!

[Fame Points +100]

Mu Lan: "..."

He opened his system panel, staring at the points.

[Fame Points: 150]

Mu Lan: (This… This is getting out of hand.)

He had done absolutely nothing today, and somehow, he had been mistaken for a hidden monster and had unintentionally challenged a crown prince.

And worst of all—

He had to keep this up.

"…I just wanted a quiet life."

But fate had other plans.
