They kinda do that... But they do that via starting different universe like 1610 a decade ago, and now this year 6160. While continuing the main timeline, 616, like normal. Unlike DC they don't kill all the character growth and personality w/e it pleases them.

Yea... that's just his broad highlights tho. Especially written by writers who are working on group (Avengers, or X-Men) comics. Read his OG solo runs, he doesn't posses those ego trips that MCU popularized in recent times. He is quite down to earth, dedicated to make the world a better place (responsibly not like in the movies), run a lot of charities, hold himself responsible for all this employees (ex. give them benefits) and much more. For me Stark's characterization went downhill from Civil War (2005) comics, when writers weren't able to conjure up a bad side, so they shoehorned Tony into that role. And it continued all the way down till Inversion/Time Runs out Arc. Only after that IM comic writers got back to writing him somewhat like how he was originally while still retaining his modern personality (quipping and banter).
