Capítulo 15: [Medical Exam! - Part 1]
------------Konoha Hospital, 7:20 A.M------------
'The Konoha Hospital, even among shinobis the most famous ones have always been medic-nins. Most of the time Medical shinobi's are busy operating on shinobi's but in times of peace, normal civilians can also get access to their services. Though most of the ninjas help protect the village, the civilians can only gaze upon them from afar and are only in contact with them during missions. Medic-nin on the other hand can be found any day in the Konoha hospital treating civilians and shinobi aside...'
Hinata, Shino, and I were standing in the lobby of the hospital waiting for Kurenai-Sensei, she was talking to the receptionist about something.
"What do you think the exam is like?" I asked Hinata and Shino…
"You never had one? Tobi-san" Hinata asked me a little concerned about it now, 'well to tell you the truth I have gamer's body so I never got sick as far as I can remember.'
"Well, I am from a civilian family so getting checked by a medic-nin is a luxury that is only given to severe civilian cases. So I never had an exam as far as I can remember..."
"Oh!...it is not much different than your Mystic palm, it's a jutsu that when used can scan the targeted area...or at least that's the medic-nin said last time I got a check..."
I nod and turned towards Kurenai sensei, only to notice she was coming towards us with an old man in tow…
"Team, this is the leader of the medic-ni training program Yuki-san" The man looked to be in his 50's and was still in green doctors' scrub top and pants. There were white bangs coming out of his cap.
"And they Yuki-san are my team, Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame and Tobi Shou..." As soon as she tells the name of my other two teammates Yuki-san's eyes started examining me…
"Oh...So he is the one you told me about?" Yuki-san turned towards Kurenai sensei, seemingly unimpressed by my non-clan last name.
Kurenai-Sensei hesitated before saying, "Maybe we can talk about this in a more secured place?"
Seeing the expression on Sensei's face Yuki-san nodded then indicated to follow him. Kurenai sensei gave us a look as if saying to behave and then followed behind Yuki-san…
'What, do we look like some misbehaving kids?'
I grumble a little but still followed Sensei and Yuki-san into a room further down the hallway. The room was a standard hospital ward with 2 beds on the opposite side of the room with a curtain between them. The stench of sanitizer is clearer in the room as it looked like it was recently cleaned.
Yuki-san turned towards me scanning me one more time before walking towards a cabinet and taking out a scroll from inside it. It contained a net, after taking the net he walked towards the nearest fish tank and captured a fish before dumping it on a nearby table and holding it in place… after a few minutes, it stopped flopping and lay dead on the table.
'Well, I know what I need to do...'
I walked up to the fish and went through the hand signs…
'Mystical Palm Technique'
Green chakra appears in my hands as I started to concentrate on healing the gills of the fish and providing its body with oxygen. Because of the regeneration provided by the Mystical Palm, the dead cells of the fish were revived and it started flopping again hoping to get more oxygen. I pick it up and threw it in the tank as I look at Yuki-san for the verdict.
'Can't say anything now can you Old man!'
*humph*
The expression on Yuki-san's face was of that wonder and amazement, he tried to form words before going to the tank and analyzing the movement of the fish. I look back at Kurenai-sensei with a puzzled expression so she walked up to Yuki-san and said, "Is everything okay? Yuki-san?"
He seemed to have snapped out of a daze as he turned to me and asked, "Who taught you medical-ninjutsu?"
I hesitated, 'This old man will be able to see through my bullshit if I explain too much, better to keep it short and simple.' "I learned the basic Healing Technique from the public library, then copied the mystical palm from a medical-nin. I am a sensory ninja so I just tried the jutsu and it took a lot of fish..." I reminisce back to the corpses of fishes lying around the lake and the funny look on Hayate-sensei's face when he saw kicking a dead one back into the lake out of frustration… 'good times...'... "A lot of fish..."
Yuki-san stared at me for a while before nodding and turning towards Kurenai-sensei… "I can get him a combat medic license, but he needs to cover a 2-hour shift at the hospital to go through the necessary procedures. Plus we need to test his theoretical knowledge..." he turns towards me and asked, "Do you know any other Iryo ninjutsu?"
I shook my head no and he nodded sagely… "Well I don't wanna lie to you but you do have a lot of talent for Iryo Ninjutsu...I don't think anyone can do what you did unless I guess we are talking about Lady Tsunade... I would like to draw a proposal to Hokage-sama to withdraw you from the combat team so you can rather train and flourish Iryo Ninjutsu without any risk to your life."
'Ouch...I so don't wanna be Kurenai-sensei right now...She can't talk back to a senior member of the medical department, even though he just doubted her skill to keep her genin team safe...'
I bow a little to Yuki-san before rejecting the offer, "I appreciate the kindness Yuki-san but I would like to continue being a part of the combat force. Although I would be grateful for any knowledge that you could impart to me..."
Yuki-san seemed puzzled by my reply so he asked, "But why to risk your life when you when you can do so much more being an Iryo-nin, you can save more lives and once you grow and learn more, I am sure you can surpass almost everyone currently working at this hospital..."
Looking at the puzzled face of Yuki-san I realized the reason for his astonishment, 'well pride can be a fickle thing, the people working in the medical department have their own..., they believe they are more important to the survival of a village. The shinobi's fighting out there have their own pride, because they protect the village from outside threats. There is no side here just the two pieces of the same coin...'
"There is no specific or elaborate reason Yuki-san, It's just a promise I have to keep..." I smile at him to show my resolve and commitment hoping he would understand ad drop the topic.
"Okay, but you can come to me anytime..." He then turns towards Kurenai-sensei and looking at her stiff expression realized the blunder of his previous words…
He chuckled to cover his embarrassed expression, "Anything else I can help you with..."
'Respect Old man!! Respect...'
