Capítulo 5: Still meeting Corban

Corianne tried to sound nicer, "You would do the same if it was me." It was a rather pathetic excuse, if I say so myself.

"Or me," Aurum said, jumping on the wagon.

"But of course, we never do such silly things."

It took only a second for Makena to stop taking their taunts as jokes.

"I'm going home." She declared, turning around to walk away from them.

Hmmm, there's a limit to human endurance after all.

Cory caught Makena's arm just in time, "Noooo."With the sweetest voice to ever be feigned, "Don't go please."

"We didn't mean to upset you." Aurum joined in, sounding uninterested. It's not surprising, Cory nudged her to speak.

"I don't feel too good." Regaining the liberty of their arm, "Allow me to leave."

"But...we have that restaurant reservation. You'll love it, it's super classy and they have seafood. It's worth it." Coaxing and wiggling her brows was Cory's strategy to make it sound appealing to Makena.

"I'll rather return home now. I know where to find the spare keys."

"If you go home, what will you eat as dinner? Was the popcorn enough?" Aurum had to put her hand over her mouth to stifle back her laughter.

There wasn't any speck of sympathy in her tone. I was almost starting to feel bad for Makena. Just almost.

Meanwhile, Cory wasn't finding it funny, "That's enough for one day Aurum. You're just making her feel bad." She shot a death glare towards Aurum, making her pucker her lips in defeat.

"Pfft. You did the same thing." Aurum defended herself, not taking it lightly.

"And I stopped when I needed to. You never know when to stop."

"Both of you should shut up!!!!"

Makena had to intervene before their little squabble came to an abrupt halt. These three, are something to look out for.

Cory looked almost sorry, "You see, without you, we'll kill ourselves."

"You haven't killed yourselves since we were kids." Makena waved her hand, unfazed. "I don't think you'll start now."

"Do we need to beg you? Just come with us Makena, and quit sulking. I bet he wouldn't remember your face again."

"I hope he doesn't, I wouldn't want to relive my moment of embarrassment"

Contrary to what Makena wants, I would want to meet her again. Just for the fun of it.

"Jacob is going to have a good laugh when I tell him about today."

I don't know who Jacob is, but she must not want him to know about the events of today. In fact, she glared at Cory, enough to pierce a hole in her skin.

"You wouldn't dare."

"I would. You'll see."

"Cory, this is why you should ditch your boyfriend more often to hang out with us. Your sisters." Aurum finally joined this part of the conversation.

So, they were sisters. All three of them?

"And have this much weirdness in my life? No thanks."

"The weirdness hasn't killed you since we were kids. It wouldn't kill you now."

She arched her brows, "Why would I want to spend more time with you anyways." Dismissively waving her hand, "I am already paid to do that."

"Aren't you so lucky?" Makena batted her lashes, "Your best friend is your boss."

"Tsk Tsk. That's not luck."

Placing her hands on her hips, "Why are you complaining when I'm the one living with her?" Aurum tilted her head in question.

"You both sound like you don't love me." There was a fake cry that punctuated her sentence.

"We love you to the end of the world and back."

"We love even when you're weird."

"We would love you even if you decide to become a kleptomaniac and go around stealing people's popcorns."

"We love you regardless of the number of Uber drivers you give a heart-attack."

It never occurred to me that I was grinning like an idiot as they took turns humoring the star in their life. My heart tugged knowing that I don't have people like this in my life. Jotham wasn't half as dramatic as Cory or Aurum was.

I haven't even properly met them, and I already know that they would be worthwhile.

"I already knew that, but it's nice to hear it. I have a new ring tone."

Cory widened her eyes in horror, "You recorded that!!!"

"Of course!" Makena waved her phone in their faces. Cory tried to grab it, but Makena was swifter and dodged her attempt.

"Leave her Cory," The last in the crew said, "It would help with her deflated ego."

Cory took her advice, shrugging it off, "Are you still heading home?"

"Nah. We can go for dinner now?" Makena asked, changing her mind about going home to wallow in embarrassment and self-pity. I feel somewhat guilty for making her know that she was eating my popcorn. It wouldn't have cost anything to let it slide.

Cory responded, checking her wristwatch, "Yes, our reservation is for 7."

"Can't we take a taxi or something?" She scrunched her nose, "I don't want to go in Cory's ride. "

"I second that."

Corianne scowled at them, "You are both ungrateful people." Her hands were crossed, mirroring her displeasure.

"It smells like dog pee and wrong decisions in there." Makena was as blunt as ever, giggling with mischief.

I chuckled to myself, enjoying this bit of their conversation. From what I've gathered today, Makena is a very interesting person.

"That's why you have a new contract babe.... "

With a tone filled with uncertainty, "Sir?" my driver whipped his head, facing the back seat.

"Yes?" I gritted my teeth, to hide how pissed I was to no longer eavesdrop on their conversation. If only I listened for a while longer, I would have heard them talk about my brother, Jotham.

Luckily for him, he had good reasons to interrupt my moment of eavesdropping "Aren't we leaving yet?"

"Yeah." Reluctantly, I nodded my head, "We should be leaving now. You can drive."

As he started the ignition, He rolled up the window, cutting off the most interesting moment I've witnessed in a long while.
