Capítulo 72: European Prestige

"After all, you have pulled all the four major powers of Europe into war with the Ottomans." The Duke of Wellington said as he did not pull any direct words towards Felipe.

It would be an understatement to say that the Golden Globe News Paper reassured all four superpowers.

Felipe has romanticized the Hellenistic to the point that every massacre of Greeks would cause massive protests in the four big countries of Europe: England, France, Austria/Prussia and Russia. The Plight of the citizens and peasants was so great that they could not ignore it.

At the beginning of last year, Felipe organized an alliance to support Greece's complete Independence, as the pressure was too great!

Lords and volunteers from across all the countries would go to command armies and train them under the banner of Greek Independence. The most common nationality of said volunteers was the United Kingdom, so Felipe has had a massive impact on the country's politics without much effort.

History states that the Egyptians would cause great havoc in the Independence of Greece.

It would also state that Egypt would reduce Greece to the confines of the Peloponnese and even much less land in the Peloponnese.

Crete was now also in Greek possession as the war, where history told that the Egyptian Ottomans would have taken control over most of it.

History has changed so much that the Greeks now consisted of Central Greece, Thessaly, and Epirus, which has a border with Albania.

"Well, it is a mess in the making. Even though there was peace, administration stability, and protection from the four countries against the Ottomans… it is still a very new country, less than three years old. From experience, it is the most sensitive time for creating the Hellenistic Romans again as a country."

"…"

"Of course, the Ottomans agreed to the deal of London in bad faith, and reports of them wanting to redeem of such humiliation have been arriving even to the Americas.

"The most likely thing would be a complete invasion of the Russian Empire to control the Romanian Principalities fully at the moment the Ottomans try to retake Greece as justification," Felipe explained.

"There was a reason why we did not mess with the Ottomans; it was because it would initiate the conquering flames of the Russians," The Duke of Wellington said in a severe tone.

The Duke of Wellington lived through Napoleonic times and saw what total war brought to the continent. Thus, his pragmatic sentiments were to avoid war at all costs.

Felipe explained, "The autonomy of Greece and Bulgaria can repel the influence of the Russians."

"The reconstruction of Constantinople as a Christian Epicenter of the world will be worth any investment that the entire Europe can make."

"Why is that if no one can control it?" The King asked.

"To prevent the spread of Islam in Europe."

"Or maybe because you are desperate to get the title of Emperor of The Eastern Roman Empire back to your family?" The King asked teasingly.

He was old and uninterested in what happened in his life aside from what was for dinner; however, even a dumb person can become an expert in something they do a lot.

"I am afraid I can not, even if I wanted. My family may be the inheritors of the last Roman title, but we can barely pass by without going into further debt." Felipe said awkwardly.

The Queen looked at Felipe a bit weirdly. "Isn't your family rich? All the successful businesses surely must give you great wealth."

"All profits ms from my business ventures are used to pay the external debt with the United Kingdom… now the East India Company… as England might know, the debt of the Napoleonic Wars will be paid in just under 200 years," Felipe explained.

"Yes, but those are the country's debts, not your family." The Queen pointed out.

"As His Majesty the King said before, we are a former colony calling ourselves an empire… we do not have the luxury of not paying our debts, or we would be bankrupt," Felipe explained. "We can not have many debts either as we will not have fiscal spending, and the help we give to our more is fundamental for maintaining the empire to the time of emerging as a full country."

"…" The Queen wanted to ask something, but at the last minute, she swallowed her words as she understood they were insensitive.

"Even then… making a country work is not easy. I am needed back at home more than what I would like… so reclaiming the position of Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire would be more than I could ever wish in this life of mine." Felipe said, chuckling a jit as he realized he didn't know much about himself as a person.

The King did not say anything as there was nothing to say.

"But I must say, I do not appreciate the republic as an institution… especially in a newly formed country. We could see what happens when a new country is left to its own devices, and Napoleon left them unattended. This is why I currently support immensely the current dictator of Greece, though I am very skeptical of his harsh way of ruling without any show of force… he will end up assassinated or by people demanding a more federalized way of government… but he has done great for what it is."

"Who?"

"Former Foreign Minister of the Russian Empire, Ioannis Kapodistrias." The Duke of Wellington said he knew the ordeal and looked at it closely as if it were his favourite hobby.

"A Russian?"

"No, Briths/French… or more Greek, he was born in the Ionian Islands, colonies near Greece," Felipe said.

"Still with Russian Influence." The Duke of Wellington said suspiciously.

"A civil servant of a newly made county does not have the luxury to exert influence," Felipe added patiently.

"So if you are not a fan of the Greek Republic… the Greek Monarchy? Will you become King?" The Queen asked, as she did not care about politics, who would receive the crown and the shiny jewelry.

"My father and I have the biggest claim to the Greek Throne. Putting another royal family on it would be regressive to the efforts of all the European monarchies and legitimize the monarchs as rulers and maintainers of law and order. After all, it is my birthright," Felipe said as he lowered his voice to silence and glanced at the prime minister.

He then broke the ice with an active voice.

"However, I can not be in Greece as my people need me back in my former colonial empire. So if something were to happen in which I am fortunate enough to be in the position of Greek Monarch, I am afraid I would have to create a governor-general and be only representative head of state and not have much authority."

"If I were in your shoes, I would leave that Colonial Empire and get the Crown of a European Kingdom in an instance." The King laughed as his face moved in the direction as the footmen were bringing the dessert mid-sentence.

"That might not be possible." Felipe smiled politely as he prevented himself from laughing.

"The people with real power and influence in the Republic of Greece now see me as a dog that barks but doesn't bite. For the most part, it is a very right assent." Felipe lamented a bit.

"Ignorant fools, it was not for your paper; we would not have been pressured to help them." The Current Prime minister and Earl of Liverpool said, scoffing while doing so.

"It can be said that your paper is your sword and shield and rather effective at that." He continued, "It makes you wonder if a foreign monarch should have so much sway in the affairs of other countries."

"Indeed, however, I won't bet there. I am not an animal, and I understand what it means not to bite the hand that feeds you," Felipe said right away as he saw the slice of cake being served before him.

"I do not like the Spaniards… that is pretty well known… I am Catholic, but it is pretty well known that I do not give two fucks of what the Roman Catholic Church says."

Everyone laughed, some more than others, but everyone laughed.

"I am positively Bias towards the UK, and I intend to keep the lots of revenue that prop up my empire." Felipe said as he chuckled, "War is bad for business… but what I can not tolerate are the Ottomans… as everyone might know already."

The men, understanding the situation, nodded.

"I am also a monarch; I would not incite a revolution in a million years…. To summarize, the Golden Globe is not your enemy, or should you consider it your enemy? After all, it can be your greatest asset, from which we can cooperate."

"…" The prime minister said nothing as he was probing the young monarch.
