Capítulo 2: Chapter 2: Powerful and Immortal, What Now?

So, there I was, naked and alone, lying in the desert. My eyes opened, and I stared directly into the sun above me. Strangely, I didn't feel any pain or my vision going blank, but I surmised that to be one of the powers I had acquired. The reason I was lying there was because my mind was running at just about lightspeed. It was a novel experience to remember every detail of your entire life perfectly, or, in my case, my entire past life.

I also remembered where exactly my powers came from.

My first power, that of one Yuujiro Hanma, was the one I knew the least about. Though I was mostly too busy to watch anime and read manga in my past life, I had a good college friend who was a big fan. I recalled a specific conversation he and I once had. Initially, I was just annoyed about how he kept reading those mangas during our lunch break, but I reluctantly asked what he was reading to try and engage him in conversation. The following thirty minutes of that lunch break was something I had previously sorted away inside my mind as my friend yapping away about a bunch of shirtless men from a picture book punching each other really hard.

Now, however, I remembered every word he said.

The power I had inherited was from the strongest character in the entire series of the manga my friend had been reading. Yuujiro Hanma, 'The Strongest Creature on Earth', 'The Ogre', and the father of the titular character Baki Hanma.

His powers were pretty simple and can be summed up in two steps. One, his body was a human superweapon. He had the physical strength, speed, and endurance to comfortably go up against an entire country's military. The limits of his physical prowess were still unknown from what I had heard my friend say. Two, his strength and combat abilities were heightened multiple times when he flexed his latissimus dorsi muscles. When he did this, the muscles on his back shaped themselves in a way that resembled the face of a demon.

My second power I was already relatively comfortable with. It was the power of Eddie Morra from the movie 'Limitless.' I recalled watching the movie once in a half-drunken stupor on a friend's couch at a house party.

In the movie, Eddie Morra had to consume a drug daily to get the power's benefits. The withdrawal from the drug was horribly painful; however, I did not know if that would be a problem for me, as it was still unknown whether I would need to take it to keep the powers.

The drug, NZT-48, was said to have the ability to unlock 100% of the brain, but that was a false statement, as the fact that humans only use a fraction of our brains to function is a myth, to begin with. In reality, it was just a nootropic drug that increased intelligence to superhuman levels and resulted in a perfect recall. NZT also granted its user some other almost supernatural cognitive advantages, including omnilingualism, enhanced synaesthesia, and instant knowledge assimilation — indeed, a broken power.

This power was also the reason I was able to remember everything from my past life with such clarity.

My third power I also knew quite a bit about. Deadpool was a trendy and well-known character from the Marvel comics from my past world. He was enough of a pop culture icon that even I, as a certified non-comic reader, had heard enough about him in passing to make a general profile of his abilities, the most important of which was him remaining alive through anything. In short, Deadpool was virtually immortal. I did not know the precise limits of his immortality, but I recalled hearing him regenerate to top health from anything between decapitation to complete incineration.

"Hm, quite the set of powers I have here," I quietly muttered aloud, still staring intently at the sun above me.

'If what I am thinking is right, there is nothing really that can touch me with these powers. I am strong enough that no one can easily take advantage of me. I am smart enough that no one can easily trick me. And with apparent immortality, I don't have to fear death any time soon.' I silently mused a bit more to myself about my situation. However, no matter how much I thought about it, I came to the same conclusion: 'I am free in this world.'

While I only heard a little about 'One Piece' in my past life, I was pretty sure the level of strength present in the world wasn't so high that I would be helpless. From what I knew, the peak of power here was basically just punching really hard, maybe destroying a mountain or two, which means I should be able to keep up most of the time. More importantly, however, it also means that there should be nothing like gods or cosmic beings present that could ignore my immortality.

All I knew about the politics of this world seemed relatively two-sided and straightforward, with the government on one side and everyone else on the other. With my intelligence, I guessed I would have a pretty easy time navigating politics if the need arose.

My last concern about the situation I found myself in was whether I had an external reason for being here. The angel I spoke to earlier didn't seem to hint at me having a purpose, however, so I settled on just doing my own thing.

With my mind mostly cleared, I closed my eyes and sighed deeply. In my head remained only one last concern. It was a concern of existential proportions.

Intending to air my doubts in the open, I asked aloud, "Powerful and immortal, what now?"

"What did you say?"

"Huh?" I grunted stupidly.

I opened my eyes and saw a beautiful woman standing a couple of meters to my right. She wore an open white coat with a tiny purple skirt and blouse underneath. On her head, placed on top of her smooth black hair, was a cowboy hat matching her coat in color. Despite my less-than-clothed appearance, she didn't seem flustered in the slightest and stared only at my face with intelligent yet distrustful eyes.

"Who are you?" She tried breaking the ice again.

"Albert. where am I?" I answered her question and asked my own.

"Alabasta".
