Capítulo 58: Chapter 58

The family gathered around the dining table, enjoying a hearty meal prepared by Wu Qian, Ye Feng's wife. "I missed the taste of your cooking," Ye Feng remarked as he helped himself to some roasted pork.

Wu Qian beamed at her husband's compliment as she served food onto Ye Bai's plate. "How's business been?" she asked, busy with the meal preparations.

"The business in the States is going well. But for now, I plan to focus on our business here," Ye Feng replied, glancing at Ye Bai. "And how's your studies? I heard things are going well between you and Miaomiao," he teased his son.

Ye Bai smiled in response. "My studies are going smoothly. And Miaomiao and I are doing fine. Tomorrow, I'll accompany her to buy new glasses," Ye Bai answered.

"Keep it up, and take care of Miaomiao. You know we consider her like our own daughter," his father reminded him.

"Of course," Ye Bai affirmed. "Dad, how long will you be staying?"

"I can stay longer if there are no pressing matters with the business in the States," Ye Feng replied.

"It would be great if you could stay longer. It's been a while since we've been together," Wu Qian chimed in.

Ye Bai nodded in agreement.

"If there's no urgent reason to go back to the States, I'll stay here," Ye Feng said, bringing joy to Wu Qian and Ye Bai.

...

In Ye Bai's bedroom, he sat on his bed while messaging Lin Miaomiao. He shared the news of his father's return. Lin Miaomiao, in turn, informed him of their plan to buy glasses with Lin Dawei.

Meowmeow: Even if I insist that only the two of us should buy the glasses together, Mom doesn't agree. She wants Dad to join us.

Xiaobai: There's no problem if Uncle joins us in buying your glasses. Do you want me to come with you alone instead?

Ye Bai jokingly asked Lin Miaomiao.

Lin Miaomiao blushed upon reading Ye Bai's message. She just didn't want their outing to be awkward after buying the glasses.

Meowmeow: Why not? I just don't want it to be awkward when we're with Dad.

Xiaobai: That's okay. Why don't I bring my Dad along so that after we buy the glasses, we can leave them together.

Lin Miaomiao smiled at Ye Bai's plan.

Meowmeow: Okay, that sounds like a good plan. See you tomorrow.

Ye Bai smiled at Lin Miaomiao's response.

Xiaobai: See you tomorrow, sleep well.

...

As Lin Dawei drove the car towards the mall to meet Ye Bai for glasses shopping, he glanced at his daughter, Lin Miaomiao. He chuckled, "Still angry at your mother?" he asked.

Lin Miaomiao's face scrunched up in irritation as she looked at her father. "Dad, why did you marry my mom? There are so many women out there, but she's someone who doesn't know how to appreciate, and she likes losing her temper," she complained, gazing out the window with a sigh. "Have you ever experienced my pain? Since I was a kid, she hasn't praised me. She negates me every day. No matter how happy I am, it feels like sinking into hell when I see her."

Lin Dawei looked at his daughter and handed her a water bottle. "Come on, don't be angry. Here, drink some water. You have to take care of your physical and mental health," he advised, passing her the bottle. "Do you know when your mom was in the Hua Dong martial arts competition? Her pair of sword dances were like a girl in heaven. And do you know the first time your mom sang karaoke with me? I had so many friends with me, and she was so off-key that no one could bring her back on track." Lin Dawei smiled, reminiscing about the past, and Lin Miaomiao chuckled at his story.

"Do you know when your mom was pregnant to you, she kicked a pervert out of the bus window who touched a little girl?" Lin Dawei shared, shocking Lin Miaomiao.

"I followed behind and gave him 200 yuan for hospital treatment," Lin Dawei added, and they both laughed.

"Your mom has more strengths than you can count. At that time, she was very carefree. She had money in her pocket and knew kung fu. The first cup of coffee in my life was brought to me by your mom. All these changes are because of you," he said, looking at his daughter beside him.

"You mean I'm a demon? Because I pushed her life so far away," Lin Miaomiao retorted.

Lin Dawei nodded. "This kind of deviation is to the point of death. Every move, every smile of yours is in your mom's heart. She wants you to be happy but she's afraid you'll get carried away. She wants you to suffer a setback, but she's afraid you won't be able to handle it. She wants you to be popular, but she's afraid you'll be looked down upon. She wants you to embrace loneliness, but she's afraid you'll fall into depression," he explained. "This kind of mood can only be realized after you become a mother."

"Anyway, I'm definitely not going to be a failed mother like her. Children get tired at the sight of her," Lin Miaomiao replied as she took a sip of water.

Lin Dawei chuckled. "I'll remember that for you. In the future, when you yell at your kids, I can laugh at you."

"No, I won't," Lin Miaomiao insisted.

"Let's wait and see," Lin Dawei replied with a smile.

...

Lin Miaomiao dashed through the mall when she spotted Ye Bai and Uncle Ye. "Hello, Uncle Ye!"

"Miaomiao, you've grown up so much! You were so small before," Ye Feng greeted her warmly, handing her a bag.

Lin Miaomiao accepted the bag and found some imported snacks inside. "Thank you, Uncle Ye!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up at the sight.

"Ye Feng, it's been a while," Lin Dawei greeted Ye Feng, shaking his hand.

"Yes, let's catch up later and have a drink," Ye Feng suggested with a chuckle.

"Why not? I'd like to hear about your travels," Lin Dawei agreed.

Lin Miaomiao then pulled Ye Bai away from the two men. "Let's leave them and head to the glasses store first," she suggested eagerly.

...

As Lin Miaomiao tried on different glasses frames, she showed Ye Bai the ones she was considering. "Which one looks good?"

"They all look good. Glasses always look good if you are the wearer," Ye Bai replied with a smile.

Lin Miaomiao grinned and continued browsing through the selection. "There are so many nice frames, but my mom prefers black-framed glasses."

Ye Bai approached Lin Miaomiao. "There's nothing wrong with black-framed glasses; they suit you well."

"Really?" Lin Miaomiao said, picking out a pair with black frames. "Then this is the one I'll choose."

"Go ahead and let them change the lenses to match your prescription," Ye Bai suggested.

The store assistant helped Lin Miaomiao check her eyes and changed the lenses in her new glasses.

Lin Dawei joined them. "Is everything alright?"

"Yes, Uncle. They're just changing the lenses for Miaomiao's glasses, and then we'll be done," Ye Bai replied.

...

As the evening descended, two fathers, Lin Dawei and Ye Feng, sat on the barbeque shop, reminiscing over glasses of beer. Their conversation drifted to their children, Lin Miaomiao and Ye Bai, who were just high school students and had recently become a couple.

Lin Dawei took a sip of his drink, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Can you believe it? Our little Miaomiao and Bai are already dating each other."

Ye Feng chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief. "I still remember when they were just kids playing in the playground. They've grown up so fast."

They shared a moment of silence, lost in their thoughts, before Lin Dawei spoke up again. "You know, I never would have guessed they'd end up together. But I have to say, they seem really happy." As he looked at the two kids eating on the other table.

Ye Feng nodded in agreement. "They're both good kids. Miaomiao's bubbly personality and Ye Bai's calm demeanor seem to complement each other well."

Lin Miaomiao, with her lively and outgoing personality, made a contrast to Ye Bai, especially when they were kids. Ye Bai was always drawn to any of Miaomiao's antics.

Lin Miaomiao was happily eating the barbecue. She looked at Ye Bai who was staring at her. "Why are you looking at me like that? Come on, eat, it's good."

Ye Bai also took a grilled meat and started eating. "The exams are coming up, how is your preparation?"

Miaomiao rolled her eyes. "I'm enjoying my food and you make me think about studying," she said, gnashing her teeth but still biting into the food. "I need to maintain my grades this time. Mom didn't give me my reward last time."

"Then good luck, I know you can do it. If you have any questions, just ask away and we can study in the library," Ye Bai suggested.

"Okay," Lin Miaomiao said.

As the daylight began to fade, everyone decided it was time to head home.

...

While in the car, father and son, Ye Feng and Ye Bai. Ye Feng noticed his son busy with his cellphone, exchanging messages with Lin Miaomiao. "How's Maimai?" he asked.

Ye Bai suddenly stopped scrolling through his phone and looked at Ye Feng, his eyes questioning why his father mentioned her.

Ye Feng kept his eyes on the road. "Is your mom doing alright after I left?"

Ye Bai's eyes reddened upon hearing his father's words. "Mom always misses you. Not a day goes by without her lighting incense in front of your picture."

"I love her deeply, and that's why I searched for her in this life," Ye Feng replied.

"I don't know why I ended up in this world after the accident. But my great grandfather told me that being extraordinary is in the Ye bloodline, although it has been diluted over time due to changing circumstances. I didn't believe it until after I died," Ye Feng confessed.

Ye Bai listened attentively to his father's revelation.

"After the accident, I ended up in this world, younger and with future insight. My life became easier, but my love for your mother never faded. I tried to find her, and I wasn't disappointed."

"But how did you know that I'm your son, Ye Bai?" Ye Bai asked.

"I can see people's emotions above their heads. It's one of my secrets that helped me succeed in this life. When we first met yesterday, besides your happiness, I sensed a longing in your emotions, and I immediately knew you were Ye Bai in our world," Ye Feng explained.

Ye Bai smiled. "That's true, I am Ye Bai in our world."

After saying that, the car fell silent for a moment.

"Dad, do you know any way to extend my life?" Ye Bai asked his father.

Ye Feng furrowed his brow at the question. "Why do you ask?"

"I saw my life, and I only have around two years left in this world," Ye Bai admitted.

Father and son arrived at their apartment, but instead of going inside, they sat on the bench outside.

Ye Feng bought beer and handed it to Ye Bai. "How did you know you only have two years left?"

Ye Bai took a sip of his beer and looked at his father. Ye Bai started to tell his life story after his father passed away. Ye Feng couldn't help but wipe away tears as he heard about his wife situation after he was gone.

"I died trying to rescue my girlfriend Zifeng. Maybe you know her." Ye Feng nodded as Zifeng was indeed famous child star when he was still alive. "After the accident, I woke up here, realizing I was in this world."

Ye Feng took a sip of beer and looked at his son. "Do you feel anything unusual in your body?"

"Not really, but I've been feeling more tired lately. And sometimes I dream that I can't move," Ye Bai confessed.

"Have you considered that you might not be dead yet? Perhaps you're in a comatose state in our world," Ye Feng suggested. "When I arrived in this world, I never experienced what you're going through. But upon observation, you seem to be constantly tired and dreaming that you can't move. What if it's a sign that you're not dead but instead in a comatose state, waiting to wake up in our world?"

Ye Bai's eyes widened at his father's words, but then fear replaced his excitement. "Dad, is there a way for me not to return to our world and just stay here?"

Ye Feng shook his head. "I don't know, and I can't answer that question."

Ye Bai glanced at his phone, where he saw Lin Miaomiao's joyful smile. He couldn't help but shed tears at the thought of being separated from her.

Ye Feng noticed his son's distress but had no words of comfort to offer. "Have you told Lin Miaomiao about your life?"

"I tried, but I couldn't continue when I saw the sadness on her face," Ye Bai replied, recalling Miaomiao's reaction on the swing that night. He couldn't bear to see her that upset.

"I don't know what advice to give you, as I'm not in your situation. But all I can say is this: enjoy your life, and don't hide your problems from Miaomiao. She'll be the first one hurt by you, and she should know about your situation," Ye Feng advised before standing up and walking into the apartment.

Ye Bai stared at the stars, recalling his father's words about the possibility of not being dead yet and being in a comatose state. He thought of Lin Miaomiao on one side and the people he left behind in the other world on the other.
