Marcia crouched down and cradled Zen into her arms, her frantic heartbeat played a staccato inside her rib-cage, playing an additional game of knick-knack paddywhack to an old nursery rhyme that had her convulsively swallow the saliva stuck in her throat, allowing her Ascendant gift to spring forth she encompassed them both in an aura of golden light.

“Hey!”

Marcia felt rather than saw someone reach for her, only to be pulled away and she knew almost instinctively that John, her charge’s father would keep them at bay. Allowing the healing light to encompass the boy she winced at the absolute pain she could feel coming from the boy, the old injuries she ignored, the still healing injuries she brushed up against, recording them for later, right now it was imperative she heal, the ruptured blood vessels and the internal swelling in his abdominal cavity.
