Hmm, good plot hole you caught me on. I’ll take note of that when I come to edit this chapter.
“This wasn’t the only time we had to blow up mountainsides to stop refugees, but this was the only time anyone died because of our demolition actions. When I saw the state of those ladies in the factory and the hopelessness that was in their eyes, I was immediately reminded of that day. I don’t want to leave them there knowing I can help them.”

All of this was making it nigh-on impossible to form any kind of suppression line to try and curb the fire’s advance. When night finally came everyone was already discouraged, covered in grimy ash, and exhausted. Of the four areas that the townsfolk were trying to fight the fire, only Gillian and the others on the dock were making any kind of progress.

I won’t lie, there was some inspiration
As she walked, a road sign, half bent over, seemed to come strolling past her. The old white letters of the towns ahead had long faded, but someone sprayed on it the name of a gang that probably controlled the area, a common sight. The symbol was a dog snarling, below was the name of the town: The Damn.
