Kabanata 2: As I Stood There...

I stood facing the great unknown waiting for something to happen. I looked into the only puddle that spirals downward. I saw my reflection in the mystical water. I saw others toss in useless lures to the lurking fish below. How was it that I could hear their every expression and inward thoughts, I mused. A crease furrows my brow and I watch those hollow mens attempts. I laughed so hard that I had to stop for breath. If only they knew, I say to myself. I say a very ancient word and time stands still. I cast my eyes into the water again and then a sharp whistle escapes my lips. The fish that were lurking in the deep, rise to the surface of the water. I stoop down and gently stroke them with my hand. I murmur to them lovingly and straighten my back once more. The fish and I head in the same direction for a very long period of time. I sing a song, and the time returns back to normal.
